Q: Due to circumstances too complicated to go into, my husband and I ended up trying to finish the drywall on our kitchen ceiling ourselves. We were in a bind and couldn't get a contractor, so we used compound, taped, sanded, primed and painted the ceiling 2 weeks ago. In some places the tape has bubbled, in others it's clearly visable under the tape, the ceiling looks, well, bad.My question is: how best to fix it? Do we sand down to the original tape (please, nononono!) and redo it? Is there a textured paint we could use? Pressed tin panels (country house)? We don't have a lot to spend on the project, so any advice would be appreciated! (Yes, I know we messed-up when we painted): The specific problem areas. Replace fresh tape with mudding. When done & dry, prime paint those areas. Get bucket of sand texture and a 'bumpy' roller. Mix the texture with water until it is paintable thickness. Roll it on; it will splatter. Water & rag will wipe it off. Dry. Repaint.

Q: We have an area in our ceiling that had water damage a few years ago and we repaired it ourselves for a quick fix. We never got around to actually getting it professionally repaired, but had never had any issues so it wasn't something we were worried about. About 3 days ago we noticed that there was a hole, about an inch long, I'm the crease of the ceiling where it meets the wall in the same place we had repaired. We don't know if maybe there is a mouse in the wall chewing a hole, if the house finally settled to the point where it cracked our repair job, or if there is another answer. It appears that the holes are only in the drywall tape and not in the drywall itself. Does anyone have any suggestions on what could be going on our who we could call in to inspect this?: Could be the mold, but simply could be the tape deteriorating. Did you use paper tape? IF you fix it again, use the self stick fiberglass tape before you mud over it.

Q: There are a lot of wires and tubing between the joists and I'm not sure if I'm supposed to work the insulation around them or just lay the stuff over it. Seems like if there was a problem with the water or electricity, finding the wires and such would become a problem with them tucked under the insulation. Any help would be greatly appreciated.: i wouldnt insulate we have a finished basement and drop tile cealing and what ever the temp is up stairs thats what the basement will be (winter time). if you basement walls that are not inaulated thats what needs to get done.

Q: When I moved into my house the ceiling was cracked from the ceiling fan out to the walls in two directions. I don't want to put new wall board up and repairing the crack is not possible according to my Husband. What are some ways to cover the ceiling up?: If the ceiling is still shifting, it will crack again, no matter what you do. If not, then you might be able to fix it with joint compound and drywall tape. I don't know if it's the same, but we recently had a crack going from ceiling to floor. We had a drywall guy come out, who made the crack a little bigger, then remudded and retaped and retextured. (Actually, the problem was that it hadn't been taped the first time.)
