- Q: How can I cover a slate floor with carpeting.
- If its the gauged slate that is smooth and not a rough texture you can go over it with pad and carpet as normal. The tack strips will have to be glued and screwed into the sub floor. This will have to be treated as a slab or basement floor installation. Its possible to glue direct the carpet but the slate must be clean and solidly attached. Then you must treat the grout lines so the lines on t show through the carpet. Check all exterior doors to make sure you have clearances. Interior doors can be trimed down. - Q: What can be used to mop wax floors in-between waxes? My employees and I are having a hard time finding a cleaner that won't ruin the surface. For now, we are using just hot water and a mop but the water always leaves marks and doesn't seem to really do any. It just seems to make it dirtier. Any suggestions?
- Wax floors? It would help to be more specific, but generally the marks may be coming from the mop being too wet. Hot water alone will not break down dirt. Nor will clorox. Add a small amount of mild liquid detergent, or an all purpose cleaner. I like liquid **** and Span (from the dollar store) as it doesn't leave a residue. I have used a Libman Wonder Mop for years. It doesn't leave streaks like cotton mops. Just make sure your mop is wrung out well on your last pass. Good luck! ps...I avoid the Mop and Glo type products as they tend to build up, along with the dirt that gets trapped:(
- Q: Is there anything on the market that lets you huge marks on floors? My freind dropped something in my perfect living room floor and now it has a ugly mark.
- Is it wood? If so you may be able to steam it out. Soak it, then use a wet towel and hot iron. Put the towel on the spot and keep pressing the iron on the spot, don't leave it too long, just press and then check.
- Q: I would love to know if anyone knows something about living on the 3rd floor apartment when you're pregnant... Are there any risks? We are planning on starting to try to get pregnant in 6 months and are thinking about moving to a 1st floor or stay in the 3rd floor one we love. I would love to read your opinions, THANKS!
- There isn't any problem with living on the 3rd floor while pregnant because you are already used to the amount of exercise involved. A problem would be if you have complications and get put on bed rest, but that would be the only thing.
- Q: I have Pergo flooring in my kitchen. a couple pieces in the middle have chipped. any suggestions on how to go about fixing this?? do i need to completely pull up the flooring.? looking for a trick of the trade. :-)thanks in advance
- Other than gluing the chips back in place, the next reasonable solution is to deconstruct the floor to the chipped pieces and rearrange the tiles with the chips somewhere not in the middle, or replace them altogether. If counters were placed on top of the floor, this would be a lot harder.

- Q: How often do you clean your flooring and what do you clean it with?
- Laminate floors are very low maintenance. Ironically, if you use a lot of cleaning products on them, they will actually look worse...they will get smudges and streaks. And never use steam on laminate...steam can absolutely ruin laminate floors. It can cause warping and even cause the veneer to peel right off. Having said this, exactly how do you maintain a laminate floor? Mostly just by vacuuming it as needed. When you need more than a vacuuming, use a microfiber mop and plain old water. No cleanser, no vinegar, no nothing...just water. Let the mop do the work. Microfiber is fantastic at removing dirt and streaks and doesn't need a cleanser to help. Wet the mop and use it. No need to dry the floor, but also don't let water pool on the floor. You want a good damp mop, but not puddles of water. (Streaks of water are ok.) If you don't already have a microfiber mop, you can buy them at Walmart, Target, Kmart, Home Depot, and even Dollar General. I've never used anything but a vacuum and a microfiber mop (plus water) on our laminate floors and they still look fantastic after all these years. Hope this helps. -

- Filingel quality control is almost the same, to see which series you like.
- Q: putting Allure vinyl floating floor in kitchen. removed old stick on tiles, now sub-floor is sticky.
- I have put the allure down on a few different jobs and have been pretty impressed so far. I would just put a sound deadening pad underneath it. It comes in rolls and you get what you pay for quality wise. It is sold in the flooring department, and a good one will cost about 45 cents a square foot. Just duct tape the seams, no need to staple down, and lay your floating floor over the top.
