- Q: I have a newly constructed basement (less than a year) which is being used for wine storage. Its too humid. I am adding ventilation and have treated the floor with a moisture barrier. Now I want to paint the floor.
- This is probably too simple of an answer. Concrete paint. That's one thing places like Home Depot and Lowes are good at helping with. I've had them drop the ball on other more complicated questions, but they seem to give good advice on paint.

- Q: I am nearing completion of construction for my own new 2 story home. On the 2nd floor, I am planning to install a floating bamboo floor (5/8" stranded type) over gypcrete (lightweight concrete floor poured over radiant in-floor heat tubing. I think I can handle most everything, but I am not certain what the best option(s) is for running the floating floor into the staircase which goes down to the first floor. In the rest of the house, the edge of the floating floor will get covered by baseboard, but at the top step, there is no such option. Does anyone have suggestions as to the best way to deal with this? One more thing - it's tongue and groove and I was planning to glue the boards together. I already have the flooring and there are stairnosings I have with a groove on them which I was planning on assembling with the planks to cover the stairs too.
- Call or go to the place where you bought the floor and ask if they have anything to use where the floating floor will meet the step. They might have a piece of molding or something made just for that situation.
- Q: Help? I have just moved into a realtivly new 4 bed house @ 9 years old. The main bedroom floor is very very creaky more so than i remember when we went to view. The main bedroom is the worst. My best guss is there is about 5mm gap between the tongue and grove floor boards and the joists in this room.My sons bedrooms are ok. Is there any fix for this? I was told cutting the floor up was an option but seems a bit extreme .Any advice most welcome... Many Thanks
- If you can get in the crawl space you can but spaces in the gaps causing the creaks. We put in plastic spacers 30 years ago and no creaks since.

- The block sounds like it has been very well insulated. When you live in a block other people's heating can seep through into your dwelling. The only way I can think of is to keep windows open all the time. But I assume you've tried that already. Go to the doctors about it and explain the situation. The doctor can then write to the necessary people explaining the situation, that you are all suffering from the effects of the problem and this could possibly prompt the authority into doing something. Make sure you let the doctor know that it has become unbearable and that the children (who are the most important in this kind of situation) are suffering badly, with their sleeping, their school life and their health.
