- You never want to cover up any problem in life even a ugly carpet. You should change it so you like it.... Cut it out and install laminate wood, or another carpet.. You can do it! good luck
- Q: I bought lamanited flooring, the gentlemen that sold it to me said it was easy to install. I've done tile before so I believed him. I spend close to $400. worth. I ruin some planks because I tried to glue it. Anyway I would like to hire someone to do it, if not how can I do it myself. I know part of the problem is the floor is not even.
- First unlike the guy said you don't have a subfloor problem these are just inconsistancies that comes with any thing you buy especially in lumber. Floor layers use a stuff called floor leveler it is easy to mix and easy to put down all you need is a flat troweland put a coat on the floor. It kind of works like a concrete trowel. Just put the stuff on the floor and let it dry then your best be is to put down some kind of underlayment. The profesinals will tell you a hard wood underlayment, like oak or white birch etc... I have yet to understand why they do that but most places won't warrenty the floor without the stuff. After you get that down all you have to do is lay your vinyl and you are done.

- Q: My condo is on the 3rd floor & I'm looking to replace the 3/4 white oak floor with 5/8 strand woven bamboo.After removing some of the oak I have found that the sub-floor is a concrete slab (I'm unsure of the thickness) covered by 1/8 of insulayment underlayment. On top of that are two(2) layers of 3/8 plywood screwed to eachother with 3/4 screws. The plywood is not attached to the 1/8 insulayment mat or the concrete slab in any way. So my first question is, is this normal floor construction?My seconod question has to do with the fact that there appears to be green mold between the plywood planks & behind the baseboard. Should I be worried?Thanks in advance. I appreciate any help you can offer.
- It is pretty common to use a plywood underlay in concrete muti-story residential. It acts to keep the floor covering warm and dry. a vapor barrier layer is also a must have. The green mold may not be mold at all, it can be a form on oxidation due to moisture inherent in concrete. If you tear out the plywood, you should replace it for your flooring to last. a strong bleach mix and mop will kill mold.
- Q: What is the quality of b grade laminate flooring? Does it scratch if a piece of paper touches it?
- While not specific to laminate flooring, grade 'b' flooring in general is a step down from the top of the line, generally exhibits subtle flaws on the surface but maintains an even coating surface (that is to say, you don't have to fill extra space). With most hardwoods this translates to a rating of #1 or #2 common floors. With Laminate floors I would guess that there would be mild warping, and slight unevenness in the surface. Perhaps a lower quality laminate used, but mostly a lower grade particle board backing, which would lend itself to being cracked along the seems easier.
