Hydraulic excavator capabilities have expanded far beyond excavation tasks with buckets. With the advent of hydraulic-powered attachments such as a breaker, a grapple or an auger, the excavator is frequently used in many applications other than excavation. Many excavators feature a quick coupler for simplified attachment mounting, increasing the machine's utilization on the jobsite. Excavators are usually employed together with loaders and bulldozers. Most wheeled, compact and some medium-sized (11 to 18-tonne) excavators have a backfill (or dozer) blade. This is a horizontal bulldozer-like blade attached to the undercarriage and is used for levelling and pushing removed material back into a hole.

- Joining the Job Core for heavy machinery operating can give you training and job placement and housing and some Grant money to get by on wile your in Trade Schooling for operating machinery. Other then that you pretty much need a Referral from some one that knows some owners of construction companies and can get you started. Some Jobs last for a long time and other are short and time between jobs are some times long. There is a machinery Operators union and they have there own training school and on the job training.
- Q: I am purchasing 2 1/2 acres of swamp for all practical purposes.I want to dig a 1/2 to 1 acre lake 7 foot deep to use the sand (this is south florida) to make high and dry ground on the rest of the property. I am trying to decide if I need an excavator or a large loader and a mud hog to pump out the water as I am sure it will start to fill the hole as soon as I make it I would think. I am just not sure how you would get a smooth bottom with an excavator.Any Ideas?
- Take the advice on whether you need permits or even if you can disturb a wetland in your particular area. As far as a machine, an excavator can build it's own work pad if the ground is boggy and simply work backward off the pad, digging as deep as you want. A good operator can make the pond bottom just as smooth as you want it. From the description of the terrain, a rubber tired loader or even a traxcavator would be stuck all the time and a pond bottom with spin out holes from tires or tracks isn't going to be exactly smooth. The only advangage a Hydra Hoe has is it's extendable boom but it still can't reach across a one acre pond. A decent size excavator will do the job in half the time.

- Q: I have a 2006 Ram 3500 dually, and I'm currently running the 5.9L 610 Cummins Diesel with a 48RE 4 speed automatic. I have a bully dog programmer, set on the lowest power level, an AFE stage 2 intake, ATS arc flow intake, and a 5 inch MBRP cat back exhaust. I'm now pretty much done upgrading the engine and I'm looking for some fairly easy upgrades to help my tranny handle this kind of power. Does anyone have any suggestions? I really don't pull all that much with the truck, mainly just using it on road tooling around town and going on an occasional road trip. Once in a while I'll tow around a skid loader or a mini-excavator on a gooseneck... Any suggestions other than use a quot;light footquot; will help, Thanks
- Been in that truck with that computer. AWESOME!!! You will find that at MINIMUM you must get a billet converter or you will ballon the outer case, I believe you need to go to a forged input shaft. Sorry, but these are not Easy Upgrades, but you will find necessary. Your internal clutch pressures MUST go up. If you carefully read the instructions for the Bully Dog, it goes over what should be done. DO NOT forget to watch the % of transmission slip on the read out..Over 4% and you will be into the tranny anyway. For now stay below the stage 4 until you can get the tranny to hold that much power.
