- Q: 1996 k2500 rear side axles, is there a trick to it or just need alot of patience?
- i'm not sure of exactly what problem you are haveing if you would like to e-mail me with a bit more info i can probly help. if the axles or in a truck with a full floating axle (the shafts bolt in from the outside then you should be able to slide them in and with a little turning and wiggleing tey should seat all the way. if you have the lighter duty semi-floating axle where they are heid in by a c clip you can slide them in untill they stop then with a littlelifting and twisting and maybe a little upword or downword twist of the flang where the tire mounts you should be able to get the splines to line up and slide in the rest of the way. like i said e-mail me if you need any more help i'm glad to help.
- Q: I have a 20 x 1.75‘ rim and i need a new axle does it matter what kind I get. How would I also remove the old one, links please.
- It depends on the type of gearing you have. If it is a internal geared hub, it is too complex a job. If it has 5 or more gears in the rear cassette, it is pretty easy. The older or less expensive bikes will have a freewheel with gears attached that screws off the hub opposite direction as the wheel normally turns. This requires a freewheel removal tool purchased from the bike shop, bring the wheel down so you get the right one (there must be at least 10 types). You will also need a chain whip, to prevent the freewheel from just freewheeling as you turn the removal tool in the correct direction. After the freewheel is off, remove one lock nut off the axel (may require a set of lock nut wrenches, but not always) and unscrew the cone from that side, then remove the axel. Back to the bike store and get the correct length and thread axel. The axel itself is very cheap, probably $1.00 to $5.00.
- Q: My auto teacher said you have to change the front axle ring and pinion if you replace the rear, is this truein my case i have a Cherokee 4x4 and i need to get bigger tires thus the need for a different gear ratio, and would it be bad to run a 3.73 with 33 inch tires?
- Your teacher is correct. You need to change both sets of gears. The front and rear gears need to be the same or the front diff will turn at a different speed than the rear and could dammage the transfer case. As far as going to 3:53 gears, with 33 tires your vehicle may not have the power to pull the larger tires, especially at highway speeds. You may need to run in 3 rd gear rather than 4th. For four wheeling the transfer case's low range may not be low enough for you to do the climbing you want. Your speedometer will be off as well, but you can change the drive gear in the transfercase, unless it's electronic then you might be able to adjust it in the computer. - Q: The thing still runs, but the mechanic said it has a broken axle. Is it safe to be driving?
- I've not heard of a car with a broken axle being able to run. Maybe he meant the part that attaches the axle to the frame. If it drives, drive it slowly to the garage and have it fixed.
- Q: I have a 82 Chevy pickup I‘m new to trucks as this is my first one! I need some educating on axles and what setup I should put under my truck.I want a Dana 60 with 4:56 gears now from what I understand a Dana 60 is a version 14 bolt correct?.Also what axle to put in the front of my truck another Dana 60 or which other. And since I want 456 fears in rear people tell me gears should match or be near.I don‘t want a rock crawler just something nice to go to the desert with my quad and city etc. Also what am I looking to pay for all this used of course.
- electric blankets cause cancer!!! and i live in california so it doesnt matter. (: hehe
- Q: Ok the problem is such that I went to get a regular oil change on my Nissan maxima 2000 and told the guy check everything else oil, brakes, etc. bla bla. Then he tells me my axle boot is leaking so I ask him he's like what to I do. He's like when I start hearing noise then bring it to the shop. Now I'm like if the axle boot is leaking and I don't even know why should I change the axle boot or the whole thing. Now I seriously dont know what should be done since the mechanic just told me to bring it back when the noise is heard. So please give me your answers. Thanks in advance.
- First, I would find another mechanic. I dont know of any real mechanic that would tell you to bring it back when it makes noise, that's hilarious. If you dont hear any clicking noises when turning and initially accelerating, then you can just replace the boot. Most shops these days including mine just replace the entire axle. We charge 240.00 parts and labor for this. But if there is no noise and the customer requests just the boot, we would do this for 150 dollars. It's totally up to you if you want a piece of mind and just get it over with, or do you want to band aid id for a year. Edit, if its both boots on the same axle, which is rare, I would just replace the axle, but again, it is possible to change the boots, add another half hour labor to change the inner boot as well. For another 60 bucks, why not get the entire axle done, that's what I'd suggest doing.
- Q: my cuestion is can i use a cv axle whit abs brakes in a car out this sistem. can i put out the abs gear and use it in a car out this brakes sistem
- NO the ABS CV Axle Assemblies do not work on vehicles without ABS, you can go to just about any parts store (Pep boys, Advanced) and pick one up for about $60. Don't bother having it rebuilt just turn in the old one as a core and just get one already done much faster. I have put my fair share of these in and trust me just do it right the first and you will be much better off.
- Q: reddish fluid is on the axle and lil on the transfer case housing, never worked on a vehicle with a torsion bar suspension, my hanes manual doesn‘t have this procedure, any good online tutorials?
- V, your move case is to the rear of the transmission. i do not recognize what Bubbs drives. in certain circumstances the four wheel drive can bind up. you could attempt to unbind it by potential of first, going someplace the position it should be cool and chance-free to attempt this, and positioned the wheels on one area on a floor that they could spin on genuinely and goose the gasoline for a short burst so the wheels spin. Then attempt this in opposite. attempt to shift out of four wheel drive after doing this some circumstances. you ought to attempt shifting even as your transferring inspite of the undeniable fact that it will be complicated. Get a equipment head which will help you. solid success.
- Q: i mean do they go in and out like a strut or are they just one set length?
- C/V Joints in long known as constant velocity joint does not move in and out like a strut/damper. It turns along with the wheel which is directed by the tie-rods. The Ball and Socket design helps it acheive this turning motion.
- Q: I have a tandem landscape trailer with a bent axle. I don‘t have the capital right now to replace it. Can I remove the bent front axle and use it as a single for a while? It doesn‘t carry much weight day to day.
- Yes but removing the rear axle will likely make it unstable and sway. The removal of the front will ride stable but have heavy tongue weight.
