Q: Ok, so I took my car in for maintenance (Mustang GT convertible 2002) and the mechanic told me the valve gaskets needed to be replaced and when he gave me the estimate, they were two seperate charges for valve gaskets and valve covers, total of about $250.00 not including labor. Is he trying to rip me off cause I'm a girl by the way? Anyways, I didn't get it done cause it needed something else too and I didn't have enough money so I said I would be back in two weeks. So I called the dealership to inquire about the price and I asked the parts guy for a price on valve gaskets and he was like, I don't know what you mean, we have valve cover gaskets but nothing says just valve gaskets? I told him to give me the price anyways, thinking I would ask my brother (who hasn't tried to help me anyways) and it was $60.00 for both (I need two). How can this be if the other guy was charging me $250.00 for different parts? Help!!! Frustrated and confused, I don't know anything about cars :(
Your car has 2 valve covers hence,2 valve cover gaskets. Not valve gaskets. Maybe one of the valve covers needs replacing? If the valve covers or gaskets need replacing your car will be leaking oil from under the hood.
Q: For whatever reason, Mazda has made it next to impossible to change the PCV valve on the 929. I'm going to have to pull off the plenum and the passenger's side valve cover to replace a $2.00 PCV valve. Before I get too involved, I need to know the torque specs for the valve cover. Also, any other tips on this process would be greatly appreciated. Can I reuse the old valve cover gasket if it's still in good shape? Should I use any kind of sealant in addition to the gasket when I put it all back together? Thanks in advance, by looking at this motor, I can tell I'll have my work cut out for me (for a friggin $2.00 PCV valve, it's usually SO simple!). you do not torque valve covers down, buy a new gasket , I would get a good quality rubber one and some blue rtv sealer, clean any crap off the valve cover no glue no bits of gasket nothing, same thing on the head surface, glue the gasket on the valve cover, let it set, then carefully put it on, start with the bolts in the middle and work out finger tight all of them, then just snug the bolts down, dont crush the gasket, you can also use a light duty locktite to hold them in place, and often times old valve covers are warped, it is too your advantage to make sure its as flat as you can get it, or spend a few bucks a buy a new one. your choice, but snug the nuts down good with out crushing and bending the thin sheet metal of the valve cover.

Q: oil coming from valve into turbo charger
The last two answers were wrong. Duramax motors have a Pcv valve. It stands for positive crankcase ventilation and every engine has one that I am aware of and it's to relieve the air pressure built up in the crankcase from the pistons moving up and down. The Pcv allows atmospheric air pressure inside then crankcase. If there is a lot of air pressure coming out of the Pcv you could have bad valve seals or worn piston rings allowing massive amounts of air being forced into the crank case. The Pcv valve on 2003 and older have the Pcv built into the valve cover. It is a box shape cap that has a spring and diaphragm under it. Old question just thought I would clear that up for the 2 people not so mechanically inclined that answered last.

Q: 1988 volkswagon cabriolet, rabbit tried mystery oil let sit for a week having trouble with stuck valves even taken a wrenrch to manually unstick. help any suggestions 4 cyclinder car has been sitting up for about 4 years
The only reason for a stuck valve is if it bent from a thrown timing belt. Sitting 4 years will not cause valves to stick usually, because there is always some oil leakage from the head, that prevents rust. How do you know the valve is stuck? Have you done a compression test, checked the valve clearance? When you say you take a wrench to manually unstick it, it would help to know what you mean, because there is no place to put a wrench that would help unstick a valve that was stuck. You need to tell us much more.
