Q: what does a #12 copper wire look like and waht does a #14 wire look like if you got pictures post a link thanks
Wire okorder These sizes are only for the wire, not the insulation on it. They all come in many colors.
Q: Okay so I just finished replacing a stolen car radio, but I think I messed up the wiring... When I turn off the car the radio doesn't seem to save the presets I had... it resets the whole stereo... I think it has something to do with the wiring I did... When I installed the radio there were two 12+ volt wires... One said 12+ volt constant and was yellow, and the other said 12+ volt switch and was pink... Problem was when I wired only the yellow one the car stereo wouldn't work, so I tried the pink one and that didn't work.. SO thinking I was clever I wired both to the 12+ volt and VOILA the radio turned on... Problem is I don't think that's how I was supposed to wire it... I have a '97 Honda accord Ex and I don't know if that's what I was supposed to do... :#92;
the yellow wire is supposed to go to constant power. the pink wire is supposed to go to a switchable power source. usually an ACC wire.
Q: 2 long striaght wires (20m each) ,each having a 1.0A current going up.The distance between the two wires is 1.0m(a) what is the magnetic field (magnitude and direction) at a point o.50m left of the wire 1?(b)what is the magnetic field (magnitude and direction) at a point 0.6m right of Wire 1?
Assuming Wire 2 is to the right of Wire 1: a) Bwire1 = (u*I)/(2*pi*r) = ((4*pi*10^-7)*1A)/(2*pi*0.5) = 0.000004 Bwire2 = 0.000000424 Btotal = 0.000004424 (away from wire 1) b) Bwire1 = 0.000003333 Bwire2 = 0.000005 Btotal = -0.0000017 (toward Wire 1)
Q: i need to know how to rewire it to make it fire the only wire that is still there is the one that runs to the distributor cap all the other wires are gone is it sopose to wire to the key please help
The GM 250 i6 is a very simplistic engine. To wire to ignition: 1. Switch on the ignition find the + out wire 2. Run a wire to the positive side of the coil. 3. The negative side goes to the distributor. 4. The starter solenoid has two large terminal two small terminals. The small inside [closest to the block] is the start wire. On the opposite post place another wire also route it to the positive side of the coil. This provides power to the coil when the engine is cranking. Good luck + + +
Q: I am replacing an outside floodlight, the cable from the house has 4 wires (black, brown, grey and yellow), but the floodlight has the standard 3 live, neutral and earth fitting. How would I wire the new floodlight.. the wiring for the old floodlight is less than a year old on a house rewire. Thanks!
Four wire power cables used to be used for 2 and 3 phase power. You would normally provide floodlight power with the use of 3 wires. How long is the cable length from house to floodlights? I would look to see what your source wire colors are and try to match those. It used to be in the USA that the red wire was used to carry the 120/240 Volts AC (50 ~ 60~ Herz). The Black wire was considered the return or negative line; and if you have a green wire it is used to put an earth ground on all the shielding, metal jackets, etc.
Q: I get how to solder one wire to the inverter, but how do I do multiple wires? Do I connect end-on-end, or all at the same source? I couldn't find a good website for doing multiple wires...
EI is very easy, you can do them either way, all that you need to assure is the voltage gets into the wire. So end to end or all direct to the inverter either way works just fine. My problem is getting the wire exposed, it takes me more than one shot at it, lol..
Q: The infamous headlight switch please help
What is so infamous about plugging the wiring to the switch? It will only plug in one way. UPDATE 8/6/11: In over 45 years, I've only replaced one headlight switch that had melted and that was on a 1994 Plymouth Acclaim and the driver had left the headlights on all night and yes it drained the battery. The plastic plug had melted but the wires had not burned through, so I had something to work with. There is a possibility you can find a wiring diagram on Auto Zones website for your car, they do have an extensive library or you could try to find a Haynes manual for your car. Or if you are low on $$ if you tell us what manufacturer, model, year of car you drive someone here might be able to help.
Q: In a telephone splice case, do you have to strip the 2 wires you want to splice, and put them together, or does each wire that you want to connect attach to terminals in the case? I am talking about the black cases on a utility pole, that the residential phone wiring connects to.
In okorder .... (but not that big), then no, the wires do not need be stripped, just forced between the tines, the process of which nicks the insulation so the wire is in contact with the terminal. A pro uses a punchdown tool, but you can simulate the effect with a finger on one side and some needle nose pliers on the other. Be sure to seat it well to the back, and don't put more than one wire in a clip. The horizontal rows of 3 or 4 tines are connected together.
Q: could someone teach or explain to me how to hook up the 1st one, i do not understand what is happening there. How do you connect thoes wires to the main wire??? the distribution?
Ok, first thing you want to do is, for each subwoofer, wire a negative and positive together. You can use regular speaker wire to do that (well you're supposed to anyway). After that, you will have a negative and positive terminal left on each subwoofer. What you need to do is run a speaker wire from each of the terminals, so you have 6 different wires from 6 separate terminals. Make note of the 3 positive wires and the 3 negative wires. Now what you do is simply twist together the 3 positive wires together, so you have 1 positive wire. Connect that positive wire to the positive terminal of the amp (if it's a 1 channel amp. If it's a 2 channel, connect it to a bridged channel on the positive terminal. Or however you want.) Do the same for the 3 negative wires. Twist them together to have 1 negative wire, and connect it to the negative terminal on the amp. Finished! That kind of wiring is called Series wiring, by the way. The other kind is called Parallel wiring.
Q: I want two lights on two 3-way switches.1. Power from basement box into light #1 with 12-2 wire. 2. Another 12-2 wire from light #1 to light #2.3. A 12-3 wire from light #1 to switch #1.4. Another 12-3 wire from light #2 to switch #2. Will this do it?
nevermind what I think....the guy under me knows EXACTLY what he is talking about! Do it exactly like he says. His way is better than mine was, honestly, because he has more experience. Thats why I deleted my own answer----we call that professional courtesy to seniority and its what electricians do when someone has more experience than we have speaks up. Now it doesnt matter what I think....I only have 22 years experience and someone with more experience than I has given better, sounder advice than I did. You should listen to him, not me.......or anybody else whom cannot match or exceed his experience. Or didnt you know that all Electricians are part of the same Brotherhood? This is why we always agree (or agree to be wrong). I was wrong, obviously, and my advice, second rate, compared to the advice you are about to get. So.....Pay attention! Wisdom follows!!!!
