- Q:The motor turns ok, and my husband couldn't find where the hose was clogged.. we just can't get any suction.It is a Dirt Devil. Upright. Approx 7-8 yrs old.
- Vacuum cleaners are simple machines. They only NOT work because the intake line is clogged, the bag is full, the motor doesn't work, or the exhaust vent is clogged. If you can start unhooking hoses and vents, find out what works, then re-attach hoses and vents until something doesn't work. If the motor spins and the bag is replaced, I'll bet you've got a clog in the intake hose. Disconnect it from the rest of the cleaner and jam a garden hose down the length of it. You may dislodge a wad of yuck or a golf ball or sock or something.
- Q:I have a memory foam mattress topper that was vacuum packed in its original box, and when I took it out originally, it expanded to many, many times its original vacuum packed size. I live far away and need to ship it to myself now, but now that it's not vacuum packed and shrunk, I can't get it much smaller than the largest of my suitcases. Is there any place that I can go to get it industrially shrink wrapped or vacuum packed (preferably in the DFW area) so that I can get it down to at least a fraction of its original size? The home vacuum sealers won't do the trick; this mattress pad is much too strong and large for what they are intended to do. I've tried and nothing works, I'm thinking only an industrial stength vacuum packer will work.

- Q:i have a canister vacuum cleaner that has been working on and off. When it works, it works well, but sometimes when you try to turn it on it won't. But then when you try again later, it works. And it hasn't worked when it wasn't even used shortly before so it can't be overheated. The vacuum is at least a decade old. I'm suspecting that the motor i nearing the end of its life..but my dad refuses acknowledge the possibility of that and citing that it just needs to be cleaned. I know when the vacuum needs to be cleaned considering that I'm like the only one who uses it!

- The great thing about bagless is that you never have to use bags...running out of bags, having to go to the store, added expense. If you decide to get the bag kind, buy a bunch of bags at the same time so you will be able to use it a while before having to go get more. Finding the right bag can be such a hassle. Bagless vacuums work great, and I would suggest emptying them outside to avoid getting dust back in the house. I use the shop vac to clean out the bagless vacuum and filters, then empty the shop vac when it's more full. If you have no shop vac, then tap it out in the garage or outside at the garbage can is my best advice.

- All that broomstick stuff was a lie promulgated by early Christianity. They actually flew on yarrow stalks. Nowadays they use Monsanto GM corn stalks for preference. Gotta move with the times. ;)
- Q:My 2 year old Yorkie Terrier HATES vacuum cleaners. A couple of days ago I was vacuuming and noticed that Tom, my Yorkie, chipped his front tooth. The tooth is chipped almost right down to the gum. It doesn't seem to bother him, but I don't want my dog to be in any kind of pain. Should I take him to the vet? Even if it doesn't seem to bother him? And what will happen if they take the tooth out?
- What if next time you decide to vacuum, ask someone to take Tom out to play in the yard...Just something to distract him from hearing those noise. And probably might save him from injuring himself too. You should take him to the Vet for that chipped tooth as it might cause an infection. Good luck.
