- My black light experience is with the tube type light in a florescent light fixture. I used it to capture the the way cotton fibers respond in paper which I had done art work on. My lab in a textile company had larger tube type lights to check chemical additives in fabric. So, try the tube lights which you may be able to find in a Spencer Gifts store.

- A regular desk lamp will work for some plants, Duck weed is one. If you want to grow plants under fluorescent light without the expense of buying grow lights I would suggest using one bulb for bright white and the other soft white. The soft gives out light waves in the lower end of the spectrum (Reds, yellows) while the other toward the blues and purples ( high end) This should be almost the same as sunlight.Keep the plants in the middle as the light spectrum fades toward the end of the tubes.
