Q: This isn't for me, my bf is redoing his new house and he got cement on his hands, but didnt wash it off in time. it's been a couple hours right now, and he tried soap and water (like that'd work lol) and oil. I suggested a nail file to get it to flake off, but he doesnt have one.would that work?please tell me if there's anything that'd work. some sort of solution or a file or something? or will he have to go to the doctor and like, get it peeled off or something? lol
Yikes! Your boyfriend needs to go see a doctor for this. The cement on his skin can cause a chemical burn, and he needs to get it off. It's important that he go now, even if the only place open at this hour is the Emergency Room. If at all possible, he should bring the package that the cement was in so the doctors can see for sure what they're dealing with. Also, if your bf has access to the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS for short) for the cement, he should bring that to the hospital too. Actually, the MSDS would probably be the more useful thing to bring if that's all he has access to. He might insist that it's no big deal and that his hands will be fine. Guys like to act tough like that. Ignore him and drag him to the hospital if you have to. ;)
Q: I am putting in a small 12'x60' mobile home on the new property I just bought, to use as an office for my farm. Would I need to put a cement pad in for the home to sit on? Would it need to be the complete size of the mobile home i.e 12x60 or could I use smaller pads just where the wheels are going to sit?
You do not need a full pad, but you do need what are called piers. They are tubular structures, in the ground, down to the frost line. Holes are augered, and then cardboard concrete tubes are placed in, and they are filled with cement. These are what the blocks are placed on, and then the house. They are necessary to avoid ground shift during cold weather. As far as the placement of ANY blocking, contact the manufacturer of your home and give them the serial number. They can fax you a pier plan. This will tell you where to place the piers. Yes, you can also use a full pad. Just contact a manufactured home set crew, and they will tell you what size it needs to be. You will still need a pier plan for proper placement of blocks. If you don't use one, be prepared for sagging floors, doors that won't open, doors that won't close, etc.
Q: I am buying a home and would like to 'dress up' the back patio area, but don't want to spend a fortune on tile for outdoors...was thinking about staining the front porch and back patio...but I don't know what this would entail...any help? THANKS!
My bedroom floor is stained concrete. We ripped up the carpet in there, the living room and the front office/living area when we moved into our house. I also stained the back patio to look like terra cotta tiles. I loved my bedroom floor so much that even though we eventually put flooring down in the rest of the house I refuse to even consider it. The color I got at home depot is a sheer golden sun, we used an all purpose sprayer (the 2 gallon kind for bug spray) and then just layered it over the floor. Make sure the floor is clean or you will have a nightmare with dust or dirt residue. Then after you spray it, seal it with a clear cement sealer. You can do patterns, or a solid color, or make it look like stone. I have some very small rugs right by the bed on either side for warmth, but the staining effect looks great!
Q: what is type K cement?
Type-K Cement is made from materials mined from the earth and is processed using energy provided by fuels, therefore, trace amounts of naturally occurring, potentially harmful chemicals might show up during chemical analysis. For example, these products may contain up to 25% of insoluble residue, some of which may be crystalline silica. Other trace components may include potassium and sodium sulfate compounds, chromium compounds, and nickel compounds.
Q: Hi , I would like to know what type of temporary crown cement would burn the quot;lowerquot; tongue when in contact with ?I went to a dentist to do a dental crowning and the doctor use a type of cement that has burning sensation to my tongue . When I flip over my tongue I saw a painful red spot below my tongue.
Many temporary cements contain eugenol (clove oil) - which gives a tingling or slight burning sensation when in contact with skin. I have never seen it cause a burn mark though The most popular brand in the UK is Temp Bond
Q: what is sound proof cement made out of?
I don't think it exists. Cement is typically used as a binding agent for concrete. Because it is very dense, it transmits sound vibrations thru it, and would not be sound proof. There are sound attenuating walls made of concrete, but they still allow some sound to pass thru. The only sound-proof place is inside an anechoic chamber!!!
Q: Im screwing masonite to sheetrock then going over the masonite with a sheet of 4x8 laminate. This is on a wall. I want an adhesive that will give me at least 30sec to get it set right and square. But i dont want an adhesive I have to have constant pressure on for an hour either. Someone told me linoleum adhesive ? I do not want to use contact cement im a newby and need the workability time to get it on right.
Contact cement is the way to go. Use wood strips to hold the laminate off the wall until ready to attach. Then just working down, remove the spacers. NO pressure need just rub down with a smooth block of wood in a towel. DONE. Did this method numerous times working in restaurants. Laminate makes a washable surface that lasts for years.
Q: I have a small problem I wish to dispose of........
cement,a bucket,and someone with feet.
Q: After walking on a cement floor at work, the next day my knees are killing me, any suggestions as to what kind of shoes to buy?
Soft rubber soles. They will wear out faster but will save your knees and feet. If you stand in one place very long also add a rubber mat to the floor. The more cushioning the better.
Q: We're casting cement for testing, and we're not sure about how to calculate for the quantities. We're using a 15.24 cm diameter and 30.48 cm tall mould. We're using a water-cement ratio of 1:2, and a cement-sand-gravel ratio of 1:3:3. We're not sure how to calculate how much of everything we need, and we need the specific quantities for our methodology. Can anyone help?
If you just use cement, once dried it will be that fragile you come put your finger through it, use sand ether 3 to 1 or 2 to 1, ideal mix that 3 parts sand to one part cement, if you want maximum strength mix concrete which is three parts chips, two parts sand and one part cement.
