Find a mild cleaner -- or even laundry soap, if you aren't sure what cleaners to use -- and put a bit on the carpet. Get a toothbrush or something that can really get in the carpet and scrub as hard as you can. Rinse w/hot water, blow dry it and see how it looks. Thanks: If you are not going to try and salvage the carpet, just get a razor knife and cut it up one section at a time, as much as you can handle.
