Q: There two different places in the house that have had candle wax spilled on the carpets - Berber carpet and Mini Shag carpet
Use a hair blow dryer. You don't need hot iron, brown paper, ice cubes or alcohol to get the wax out of the carpet quickly and thoroughly, I used a hair dryer on the High setting about two or three inches away from the wax spots, got the wax very warm to hot in just a few seconds, and then wiped the spots vigorously with a paper towel, turning it as I went. The wax disappeared almost immediately! The candle was white, melted on a beige carpet. Had it been a color like red or green, after I got the wax out, I no doubt would have had to work on the stains with a stain remover, as one reader has suggested. In this case, however, the removal of the wax took under two minutes!
Q: How long should a carpet be changed and washed? How to do if there are lice on carpet?
It would be better to wash it half a year. You can use the vacuum cleaner to wash off the dust at usual. If the carpet is stained, you can sprinkle large grain of salt on the stains, then stains can fade away.
Q: I am looking into buying a good carpet cleaning machine. I have looked at some brands like Bissel (spelling?)... and Hoover. Anyone know anything about them or own one? Are the supplies for them expensive? I also want something that wont leave a residue. Thanks for any help!
Renting a rug doctor's the best way to go, commercial quality equipment without having to buy it. Otherwise the bissell proheat series is good. Hoover not so great in my experience....
Q: What are or rather what was the use of carpet balls?
things that the carpet is to embarassed to show you.
Q: What if I went to Home Depot and bought a sheet of rubber cut to just a bit less than 8' x 10' and then a piece of felt the same size - glue them together and pop the area rug on top?Would that work?
Hi Blue Eyed Homo, I am a flooring associate that works at The Home Depot, and I know that some rug pads seem to be expensive, especially in your size. I've worked in other departments and been with the company for almost 10 years and I have yet to see a sheet of rubber that will sell in the store other than pan liner for tubs that would work in your situation. Also, you won't find at our store pieces of felt in that size. Plus, felt just won't be able to grip the rug properly especially if you have a hardwood floor. Did you check around your local stores flooring department? I think I may have a less expensive solution for you. Carpet padding, not rug pad, but the kind ppl place under their carpets. It may not look pretty but its made to not be seen anyway and it works great for big area rugs your size. Home Depot sells carpet pad in pre-cut 6ft. by 9ft. rolls or have your flooring associate there cut out a size for you. Bottom line....the carpet pad will be way less expensive than the rug pads we sell, and you'll still have a slip resistant surface for your new area rug for years to come. Hope this helps, aboveaveragejoe
Q: I need to know a safe and easy way to get some stains (juice) from my carpeting
Try some foam type shaving cream. Spray it onto the stain, and get a damp rag and rub the stain, rinse the rag, repeat till the foam is gone. Works very well. May take a few cycles if the stain is old.
Q: We used a black light on our carpet last night and found black spots. When we turned on the lights we didn't see the spots. What stains turn black under black light?
Protein stains, such as urine, blood, semen, will glow with a whitish tint. I've checked a thousand carpets with a black light,in total darkness, mainly to assess the extent of urine contamination so a decision can be made to either treat the stains or tear the carpet and pad out. I have never come across black stains as you describe them. In any case, even after extensive hot water extraction cleaning, the glow will remain. In your case, whatever caused the spots you see is probably long gone from the carpet, just the residual effect remains, which is permanent.
Q: I have a large sisal rug that has been spilled on cat-vomited on, and who knows what else. Trying to spot-clean the stains hasn't been productive. What should I do?
Hey,i happen to have a sisal rug myself!! Firstly, it depends on the kind of sisal rug you have. There are two types: synthetic fiber, which may contain nylon or wool-blend materials; and natural fiber, made of plant products such as sea grass, paper, or coconut fibers. To safely clean synthetic-fiber sisals, follow the manufacturer's directions, which may recommend hot-water extraction or a dry-cleaning method. Manufacturers of natural-fiber sisals suggest only a dry-cleaning method. Do not steam-clean or wet-shampoo; liquids or excessive dampness may cause these rugs to shrink or pucker. For spot-cleaning a stain, lightly mist the area with the manufacturer's recommended cleaning solution (do not pour or heavily apply any cleanser directly onto the rug). Then blot the damp area with a white towel and continue blotting until the stain is removed. A fabric protectant may be applied to both types of sisal rugs during the manufacturing process or by the consumer. But regular wear and tear and cleaning can decrease its effectiveness; it may need to be reapplied.=] thx,
Q: I had a bad stain on my carpet that nothing would remove. So I tried peroxide on it, and it took it out. So I was wondering if peroxide, baking soda, and things of that nature can be used in carpet cleaning machines?
It depends upon the stain, if your carpet has a light color you can use the hydrogen peroxide , but it is not advisable because it has a little amount of bleach. in using baking soda this will only absorb the awful smell. yet very effective.
