Q: Ten months ago had expensive black tile installed in master bath. Now the tile appears dull and definitely not shiny, and we‘ve tried the usual cleaners, but can‘t get the shine back. Any suggestions on what we might try to return the lustre to this nice black tile?
Go to home depot or lowes and buy Gel-Gloss. It's a polish for tile. It works great! I use it on my kitchen tiles and fiberglass tub surround. They have it on the aisle by the sinks and tubs.
Q: Dose anyone know any decorative tile srtists?
Check on line or at a tile store. Have fun
Q: What techniques and tools would make it easier to go through doorways when laying ceramic floor tile
I use a piece of cardboard [like a cereal box] cut to the size of the tile then trim it to fit around the opening when it will lay in as the tile would I use it as a pattern to mark the tile to be cut. If all cuts are done right the tile will fit perfectly. good luck John
Q: Which tile is best Porcelain or ceramic for a concrete floor?
Well porcelain tile -is- ceramic tile. It's just a bit of a different mix and baked differently than the ceramic, so that the color goes through the entire tile and not just at the top. The porcelain is also a more durable tile, so if you plan on dropping heavy things on the floor down there, then that's the one for you. In a basement, both will be pretty cold underfoot too. Just check for moisture issues and that it's properly level first before doing anything, but either way you are good to go :)
Q: I want to remove my carpet in the bedroom. I know about pulling it up and all that but what I don‘t know is what the next step is after it‘s totally up. I want to put down tile I‘m not sure if I want to put down ceramic or just the plain old sticky tile. my question is can i put tile down directly on the floor boards. I don‘t think that there is hardwood underneath i just see like plywood or whatever that board is called. Is there anything specific that needs to be done to the floor before tiling?
if you put down ceramic use the cementboard first if you put the peel and stick, i always use wallpaper primer first let it dry and then laymy lines and then put the peel and stick down the wall paper primer keeps the tiles from moving after time walking on them
Q: Hello! I currently have a 3 season sunroom addition on the back of my home that has been stripped down to the wood. I recently saw a 4 season sunroom that had tile down and needless to say, I fell in love with it! I am thinking about putting tile down in there but am worried about the weather...I live in Minnesota where it gets very cold...and that room is not heated in the winter. Would I have problems with the tile cracking? Or does anyone know of an alternative way to get a tile-looking floor without having to worry the temperature changes??
Hi, In the UK we have a floor covering which is similar to the wood effect laminate floor, it locks together and looks amazingly like 9x9 tiles. I put it in my bathroom and it is not as cold as tiles to the bare feet. It is a wood/paper based product but is waterproof for the normal house hold duty. I assume that the Minnesota winter will not make it too cold. Use a styrefoam underlay 2mm thick to prevent heat loss. this is a do it yourself job if you are handy with a saw, We know it as TILE LOK
Q: We have small ceramic tiles on our bathroom floor. They are varied in shape and size (see photo).I think that these tiles originally came with some sort of netting on the back when they laid the floor and they added grout? I believe I saw some extra tiling somewhere in our home and this is what I had found.Anyway, the grout is breaking up between some of the tiles and some of the tiles keep popping out. I have two questions, If I regrout them do I put it on the bottom of the tile too and does that make the tile adhere to the floor? How would I get the grout to match what‘s already there, it‘s a medium brown gray. Not sure if it started out that way or became like that over the years. Would it look funny if the grout didn‘t match? How could I get it to match?
no, reglue tiles, regrout after cleaning out old stuff. 2 step process
Q: I need to put a 4 inch hole in a 16 inch ceramic tile.
Drill many small holes in a circular pattern. Remember on the cartoons where a person uses a machine gun to cut a door in a wall? You can do the same with a small ceramic drill bit. Use a dremel tool to 'file' the edges smooth
Q: your supposed to?Would it damage the tiles?
No vinegar will not hurt your ceramic tile. You may want to rinse it off if you use to much vinegar.
Q: Hi, I am thinking about placing vinyl wood planks over the existing ceramic tile in my house and I wanted to know if it‘s possible. The tile isn‘t completely level due to the grout and obviously not all the tiles are exactly the same height down to the millimeter. I wanted to know 1. Is it possible to install vinyl wood plank over ceramic tile, 2. If so how level the tile floor has to be, 3. How would I go about leveling the floor, with an underlayment or with some sort of mortar, 4. If I use an underlayment do I still need to use the mortar to level the tile?Thank you.
While its always best to remove the tile and start with a fresh base for a new sub floor for the vinyl tile. This can be done .. You need to go over the tile with whats called an embossing leveler.. This will allow the vinyl to not show the grout lines. The high spots can be knocked down or floated so its barely noticeable. . By the time you do all this and the chance that you don t get any uneven tile floated out, your better off taking every thing out and do it proper. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar.
