Q: Does any one know of a website or place Greenville, NC that would sell cheap bathroom tiles? We are rebuilding our bathroom and Lowe‘s and Home Depot both have outrageous prices? Thanks in advance!
check with any tile installer he may have some left over from a big job
Q: We are looking to buy a house and we‘re choosing between tile and hardwood floor. I prefer hardwood because I feel its easier to clean and more comfortable. Husband prefers the tile. Is it just personal preference or is one better than another, cleaning wise.
I would go with the hardwood floor. As the styles change and you redecorate your house, the wood will match anything you do to the house whereas the tile may not. If a tile cracked and the ones in your house are not sold, you will have to replace the entire floor otherwise you will have a patch that doesn't match in the floor. Also, tile has to be regrouted more than the hardwood would need to be refinished. If you decided down the road that you wanted to go with tile, you could remove the hardwood much easier than tile. Hardwood is just a classic type of flooring and if it gets cold, you can just throw some floor rugs here and there (which would be a good idea in high traffic areas any) and it is as cozy as ever.
Q: Do you have, or know someone who has these tiles in the bathroom? What is their experience?
Modern stick on tiles work well with occasional dampness. I've got them in my mud room and I installed them in a friend's mud room as well. They've held up perfectly for years. The issue you're more likely to have problems with is with the subfloor. If water can get between the tiles it will be absorbed by most subfloors. Once it's in there it has a hard time evaporating out since the tiles cover the surface. An easy way to avoid this problem is to coat the subfloor with a couple layers of polyurethane before applying the tiles. Just sweep and vacuum the floor to get it nice and clean, then brush on a coat. You don't need to make it perfect or anything, you're just creating a water barrier. Once that one dries apply one more coat, let it dry, wipe the entire surface down with 220 grit sand paper to knock down any lumps or bumps that might have occurred from raised grain or particles being trapped in the poly. 100 square feet should only take you about an hour and a half of labor total and then you shouldn't ever have to worry about water damaging the subfloor.
Q: Dont want to lay down the rock. Want to attach strait to the plywood due to dish washer stove and cabinets. What is the best way for long lasting tile strait to plywood?
Going straight to the ply wood sub floor will only result in failure of the tile to bond. There will be to much deflection in the floor , the bond will break between the thin set and the sub floor. There is a thinner system you can use called Ditra. Thin mat that is applied to the sub floor and then tiled over. If your dishwashers adjustable legs can be adjusted more or if they re all the way adjusted to max you can tile up to them. You ll still be able to get the washer out. I have seen one yet that can t be taken out,its a struggle but it can be done. I suggest the 1/2 cement board, properly installed, since this meets all tile codes,(both ATC and TCA) to properly support tile. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
Q: I'm decorating my bathroom with a soothing and relaxing water theme (sand and water colours - beige, white, earthy brown, pale blue, and pale green). I need a backsplash behind my sink and tiles in the shower area. Any ideas that would work with this theme?
what about these stores.OKorder
Q: The tile grout on my bathroom floor is white in some parts, but dark where husband stands next to the sink/toilet... How can I clean it without having to re-grout it? Can I just spray bleach on or will that ruin the tile?
Mr Clean Magic Eraser cleans grout beautifully.
Q: What is the basic role of tile glue?
1 to improve the working time and adjustable time; 2, to improve water retention to ensure that the cement hydration; 3, to improve the anti-vertical; 4, to improve workability (easy to build on the substrate, easy to push the tile into the adhesive ), 5, with a variety of substrates have a good adhesion, including concrete, plaster, stone, old tiles, PVC; 6, are in all types of climate conditions, have good deformability.
Q: We want to pull out our carpeting and use self stick linoleum tiles. What do we need to know?
No. the moisture will soften the joint compound, Buy Flashpatch or Dashpatch, both are floor patching products. Not one knowledgeable answer in all the previous answers. Why do these people who lack any know-how attempt to mislead?
Q: hi guys,i had a new shower which was leaking (no waterproofing where it was leaking from..), therefore i have taken off some of the tiles where the water was leaking from and i have waterproofed it with the paste + fibreglass. before i tile, i would like to have a shower to make sure that the water wont leak. am i able to do that? in theory i dont see a problem, but is it ok to get the waterproofing membrane so wet? thanks
getting it wet and/or testing it is fine, don't get any soap or other chemicals on it that may interfere with the bonding of the tiles, you will also need to let it dry sufficiently before tiling
Q: Meaning, I was just wondering if you can lay a thin set of mortar then place vinyl tiles on it, and then grout it? This mabye a stupid question and most people would say why not just use real tile if your going to go through all that trouble, but just wondering?.Thanks
no you can't vinyl tiles and ceramic tiles are too different materials, the cement would corrode the vinyl tile, not a smart idea.
