- The wheel bearings make a grinding noise when they go bad. You can check the wheels by lifting the car and trying to move the wheels back and forth, not around. If you notice any movement the bearing is bad.

- Darrin Look at the existing tires that you have on the bike. They have the size printed on them. Probably 700 x ?? . That ?? is the width. The width of the tire has a minimum and a maximum based upon the wheels measurement. I would suggest that you ride on over to your local bike shop, and they can measure and tell you what the minimum is that you run on your bike. You can price them out too! Just remember the thinner the wheel, the more gently you need to treat them. No curb jumping or stair drops? If you are brakeless, I would imagine that it hurts your braking too! Soccerref
