- Boost mobile iden/walkie talkie runs on the Nextel iden nationwide network. Their sims can work on any Boost mobile walkie talkie or Nextel phone. Their sims will not work in any other type of phone like Att or Tmobile types. You are pretty much stuck with their lineup. Unless you use Boost cdma. There are TWO Boost mobiles. The Boost cdma is a Boost without walkie talkie or sim on the Sprint network. Sprint owns both Boost mobiles. The good thing about the cdma network is that it is generally faster and more reliable then Boost iden and you can use any Sprint phone after you first activate with a Boost cdma phone then transfer the account to the Sprint phone (You CAN'T open a Boost cdma account with a Sprint phone at the beginning.). Boost cdma recently dropped their prices so that they too have a nationwide $50 unlimited everything plan now. You can buy an older Boost cdma phone, a hot Sprint phone, call 1-877-TLK-MORE , ask for Unlimited by Boost (cdma) ,pay $15 to activate, either port your old number or get a number from the closest area to your area code (they only have phone numbers for thirteen states ). They might say they don't have your state or they need an out of state address. Just give them a Cali or Texas address that you find and port your local number. Boost cdma has better customer service, faster web , faster and more reliable texts and no where near as much dropped phone calls as Boost iden does. Whatever you choose, good luck.

- You need a T-Mobile account and data plan just to set the phone up initially. I have one, so I've done it. When you first fire up the phone, it expects to find a T-Mobile sim with an active data plan, and you have to set up Google access with either an existing account or a new account set up on the phone. Once you do that, I understand you can unlock the phone and use it with other GSM systems (like ATT), but there are a couple of caveats: 1. You won't be able to use the T-Mobile data network, even with a ATT data plan. 2. You can allegedly tweak the phone to use the ATT data network, but you still have to have a data plan to do so. 3. You won't have any 3G access on ATT or T-Mobile's network. It will work with the edge network, but since the phoen si a 3G phone, you lost the advantage of that higher speed network. To me, doing it this way is no advantage. Even though ATT has better 3G coverage (currently), T-Mobile is rapidly rolling theirs out, and it is available in many major cities. I have it where I work in DC, but not where I live yet in Jacksonville, Florida, but the edge network works there really well. I know you have an ATT plan, but if your contract is up or close to it, I'd switch. I'm very happy with T-Mobile (been with them many years) and the G1 is an excellent phone.

- You need to go to the T-Mobile website and sign into your account or if you haven't set up an online account, do so. All cell phone carriers have their sites set up that will show you 1. If you qualify for an upgrade. 2. How much this upgrade will cost. For instance: Sprint lets me get an upgrade every year. Some phones are absolutely free and some I would have to pay a small fee ( such as a 300. phone I might only pay $50). Also, Sprint will let me upgrade after 6 months however, the credit I get is less. At 6 months, I get $50 and then at 8 months $75 and so on.) If you are not computer savvy and cannot find how to do this on your own, call T-Mobile. They will gladly and willingly direct you to their sales department and tell you what you qualify for.
