Though, they are very costly, so make sure you can afford to pay monthly in the long run, or just save up for PAYG. I must say that my Xperia PLAY has been through so much, and it only has cosmetic damage. The screen is intact and the battery life is still perfect. The only problem is that it's not as fast as many phones that are out today. There are plenty of other phones available that are just as powerful as Apple's and Google's phones, but the price and customer service can vary. In my opinion, Apple's customer service is amazing.

Different phones shoot video in different file formats (.3GP, .3GP2, .MP4, etc.). And you need to tell us what kind of computer you have. Editing transcoding (converting) video on a Mac is different than on a Windows PC. One important point, in your Question headline you say you want your phone videos to equal those of bigger camcorders. Most phones do not have the video quality to equal the quality of a bigger camcorder, but you can at least convert them to play normally on a television or YouTube / Netflix style media player. If you want to show or distribute your videos using DVD, then the final video format will be MPEG-2 (or you can use MPEG-4 encoding for Blu-ray HD). But this encoding step is usually handled by the DVD authoring software (Roxio, Nero, iDVD, etc.). For just online distribution viewing (YouTube, etc.), you have a wider choice of video formats for uploading.
