- Q: Installer told me floors need conditioning and rugs may leave marks due to the sun.
- Like the others said the wood may color naturally around the rugs due to the sun, but another HUGE concern is the rubber backing on most rubber backed carpets is that they can react with the finish on the wood and ruin the wood. The use of special matts under the rug can be used to prevent this. There are a couple types of these thin anti slip rug matts . You must get the one made for wood flooring. They also allow the wood to breathe. Any questions yo can e mail me through my avatar. GL
- Q: I thre some milk on my carpet and i cleaned it up, now it smells horrible!!! How can I stop this?!!
- Try a steam machine first; then if that does not work use a liquid that you pour onto the carpet such as Stain X. It's the only thing that will rid your carpet of the sour smell if the steam machine does not work.
- Q: Do you need skirting line for bedroom carpeting?
- The ceramic baseboard is divided into: glazed tiles and baseboard skirting line, if you choose the baseboard of ceramic material, generally recommended skirting line selection and brick material as appropriate, such as the choice of the antique brick, can consider the baseboard of glazed tiles, if there is a choice can consider, Bohuazhuan baseboard, wood and stone skirting line replacement is widely used in PS polymer, the flagship high-end and mid price effect.
- Q: I am in need of a carpet rake. I have friese carpeting. It is about an inch long and and very very thick. I have a lot of matting in the high traffic areas and I think a carpet rake would help. I looked online though and the ones I found all seem to have tines that are very close together. I don't think it would get down far enough to pull anything up. Has anyone had much experience with these rakes or know another trick to get the carpet to lift. My carpet is only a year old and the high traffic areas look like my mother in laws 20
- The carpet rake, also known as a carpet groomer, is a valuable carpet cleaning tool. When a carpet is wet, it brings the nap up for even drying. Professional carpet cleaners use rakes as wide as 18 inches to agitate carpets prior to cleaning as well as to work-in fabric protector and anti-static treatment chemicals during post cleaning wrap-up. Home owners favor the 12-inch-wide models. They fit easily in pantries and are less cumbersome to use. According to Groom Industries Inc., a Salt Lake City manufacturer of carpet rakes, raking a carpet prior to maintenance vacuuming will loosen embedded dirt for a more efficient cleaning, while post vacuum raking gives carpets that like new look.=)
- Q: I'm thinking of buying carpet tile as a cheaper way to make a rug. I haven't been to home depot or lowes yet seeing as I just came up with this idea. On the store website however I can only find the pricing of cases of 35 square feet and such. I only need roughly a three tile by three tile square. So, I was wondering if they also sold it by the piece?
- well thats just standard practice to list the pricing per box... you should be able to purchase by the square(piece) Also might wanna try your local carpet store.carpet squares are typically more of a comercial grade carpet,so you could also look in the phone book under commercial flooring and talk them into selling some of their extras. hope that helped.anymore questions, feel free to ask. i have been a ceramic tile installer for 10 years and did my share of carpet too. jarod
- Q: Somehow molten candle wax got dropped in my carpet and its really hard now. How can i remove it without destroying my carpet?
- Lay paper towels on top of it and then using a hot iron heat the wax thru the towels as the wax melts blot it with the towels till clean
- Q: We are going to replace our flooring in the basement, it has very expensive cushony white carpet, and over the years with kids and dogs, it no longer looks white. Our basement is just under 1000 sq ft, and don't really feel like ripping all the carpet up. Its a very warm, dry basement, no dampness or leaks. So could I just put the laminate over this instead of using an underlay? Or is that just asking for trouble later on?
- No - Don't do it. I thought the same as you, where even on a flat carpet the floor was very springy so much so that the joints in the boards split when furniture was returned. Had to start again with the floor!!
- Q: I used to have a cat, but haven't since I bought a house and completely remodeled it. Now the house is done, and I'd like to get a cat again. I don't like the idea of de-clawing - I think it's cruel. But, I now have expensive furniture in the house and also 2 very expensive antique persian rugs. How is a clawed cat trained not to scratch/claw these things. I've always had problems in the past with this.
- Thats tough because its a natural behavior for cats. You can try Soft Paws. Its a product which you glue over the nails. You can do it yourself and it won't shred the furniture. Just make sure you don't trim the nails too short since the super glue needs something to hold on to. Yes super glue. Thats what we use at the vet clinic where I work at. They come in different colors as well.
- Q: Right now, I have wood flooring in my house built in the 1930s. Is there a chance that there could be carpet under the original hardwood flooring?
- It would be extremely unlikely that carpet would be underneath hardwood. Quite often you will find the opposite: hardwood flooring is often found underneath carpet. Hardwood flooring requires fastening to a very solid surface, which carpet does not provide. You should go to a floor heat register in a room in question, and take the vent cover off of the register. You will find a perfect dissection of the flooring layers, with the subfloor at the very bottom. What you find in between that and the hardwood will answer your question. Hope that helps!
- Q: The other day I just found out that I had a hand-made rug that was made in Iran and bought by my grandparents about 10-15 years ago, the rug is about 6x8 and they paid around $2000 dollars for it.My question is what is the proper way to clean a rug that is hand-made? It has not been cleaned in years only vacuumed... and also is there a market place for these rugs? if I do decide I want to sell it.
- The best way to clean an oriental rug is either to wash it yourself with bicarbionate of soda and vinegar, or farm it out to be washed by a company that specializes in oriental rugs. NEVER use detergent or a chemical cleaner, or dry clean, an oriental rug. All these substances will destroy the protective lanolin in the rug. A 6x8 would be really easy to do yourself. First, vacuum it face-down to loosen the deepest dirt, then right side up. You can either lay the rug on flat, clean concrete (not tarmac), or hang it over a couple of ladders or a fence. Then, rub bicarb all over it, then saturate with vinegar; it will foam up and push out the dirt. Rinse well. The advantage of doing it on a flat surface is you can squeegee it, then hang it. If over ladders, it may take a few days to dry.
