Q: We are almost done painting the living room which has hardwood floors. Covering them was simple...newspaper and tape. How do I go about covering a carpeted floor so that it will stick? We have 2 1/2 carpeted rooms and pulling the carpet up will be our LAST resort.We are amateurs so please be kind! Thanks!: What I do is take a masking Machine using 1.5 tape. pull the tape and paper out and stick the tape to the carpet. do it so the tape gos down between the carpet and base board. then use drop clothes and put the edge under the paper.Now this hand masker can be bought at the Home Depot Or Lowe's. It is about thirty dollars but is well worth It for speed and protecting the carpet. If you get the tape on right you will not have the carpet sticking to the base boards and you can paint below the pile. Be care-full to not load the brush to much, only a half inch of the brush in the paint and rack off one side. Get a good paint brush. All I buy is Purdy. Use 12 paper on the Machine and try not step on it because it will tear. Your drop cloths can be old sheets or old drapes. If you use old sheets you will need to fold them so you have a double thickness. Good luck

Q: would it look funny if i had the fuzzy white rug on it because i really want one!!!!: I was unable to open the links but I have seen this done on home decor shows before. If the bottom rug is much larger than the top one, it can look perfectly fine. People do this a lot to cover stains on wall to wall carpet when they can't afford to replace it. Buy the fur rug if you like it, if it doesn't work on the blue rug, put it elsewhere or return it. You have to follow your gut on this one.

Q: Is there a way to effectively clean my carpet without buying any special equipment? I live in an apartment building and the carpet here is very dense. Q: trying to refinish a 98 buick park and avoid having to but new carpet in, also any tips for leather?: spray carpet cleaner and a stiff brush and if it doesn't come clean enough for you dye the carpets. For leather go to autozone or pepboys and get a cleaner for leather and then put on a leather protector.

Q: I have carpet beetles. Will carpet cleaning kill them? If not, what should I do to get rid of them that is pet friendly.: I have had a major problem with black and variated carpet beetles and no matter what I did, they kept coming back! I don't want to buy bug spray because I have a 6 month old boy. Recently I went on a whim and started spraying down the baseboards with colgate pro health mouth wash since someone told me it works for bugs and then I did an experiment. I found a beetle escaping running across the kitchen floor so I sprayed him and he was running, running, running then fell over dead! I decided to add some lavender oil drops to the mix to make it smell nice. Then, I was cleaning the bedroom and I had found a carpet beetle larvae out of its hiding spot so I took it and put it into an empty container and sprayed it with mouth wash and took it out right away on a dry piece of paper and only after a few seconds, it was dead. Try mouth wash. So far it seems to be an effective way of killing them- all life stages. Since the stuff doesnt have alcohol and if you spray the baseboards only, it shouldn't be a problem as long as you don't make a pool of it.

Q: Should the couch sit on top of the rug completely or should the rug be in front of the couch?: for that large of a room, you could have a floating arrangement - if that is the case, the rug should be large enough to come out past each piece of furniture by nearly 2 feet. if you have part of your furniture grouping against a wall, the rug should go approximately halfway under the sofa (and everything else). if a tv is a factor (which likely means it has to be against a wall), it is appropriate to have the rug tuck under the tv cabinet a little bit, or for the rug to end a little bit before the cabinet/console/whatever. that's the best i can do without seeing the room and drawing a space plan! hope it helps

Q: Is professionally cleaning a FILTHY carpet enough or should it just be replaced?I am moving into a house with a FILTHY carpet. Truly disgusting, just nasty. The house stinks bad because of it. The landlord says he will get it professionally cleaned. I would rather have all the carpet taken out and replaced...or some other flooring put in. Is professionally cleaning a carpet that great of an idea? Does it only get the top surface clean..or does it clean deep down?: If the carpet never cleaned in years it's better to replace it, odors may come from the pad under the carpet even after clean the carpet. Also check the floor under the carpet.

Q: I am away from my horses at the moment and i have to call each day to have them rugged. I couldnt get a hold of the lady today and they may not be rugged. its winter here (not snowing here ever) and they have always had doona type rugs on of a night. will they be ok and not get sick?im so worried i feel sick: Where I used to live Everyone blanketed, I moved and now where I live it is MUCH colder and Nobody blankets. I have found that at first the horses have a little harder time if they have never been exposed to the elements but they adjust quickly because naturally in the wild that is what they do. He will develop a fuzzy coat even if it is late in the season. Provide Lots of hay, Make sure it is grass hay, since he can't move much you don't want to feed him high quality feeds as he will get too much energy and may re-injure himself, or start gaining a lot of weight (not good for a healing injury). If this is happening on just grass hay, find a poor quality grass hay and give him a multivitamin/mineral mix to make sure he remains nutritionally sound. Also, feeding a low quality hay will help with his boredom because hopefully you can give him unlimited and he will be able to eat/graze as he chooses. The continual digestion will help him generate body heat. He will be cold for a while but he will get it figured out. Just remember if you 'rescue' him every time from the slightest cold it isn't healthy for him and will make him weaker in the long-run, because they forget how to care for themselves. In the wild they survive blizzards and come out kicking, playing, and having fun, and I have seen them do so in captivity as well- their owners just need to let them learn how to do it.
