Q: What is the best, and safest, insecticide to use for home vegetable gardens?
Home gardeners are confronted with many potential insect problems. The types of problems will depend on their location, the health of their plants, and the types of plants they grow. Depending on the type of plant, problems can range from rare to frequent. A pest management program for home gardeners should rely on proper identification of insect pests, effective use of preventive cultural controls, conservation of natural enemies, and the use of chemical controls as a last resort if other control strategies are ineffective or unavailable for a particular problem.
Q: I got heaps of these really small black flies that are breeding in my home. They look just like a black ant (same size, black, thin, long) but then when you look up close they have 2 wings on them. A friend gave us a printer and noticed the whole thing was infested with them. Now the printer has gone, they wont go. They tend to be hanging around our window glass and sills in our bathrooms, bedrooms, kitchen. I cant spray anymore as its giving me allergies. What are they? and how can I rid them?
For cockroaches MOVE!!! all other bugs just take your family and pets bomb your house and get a hotel!!!
Q: I want to make the original cookie recipe from the sixties. However i do not have the cookbook. The cookies are sugar coated balls called either Christmas balls or snowballs. The cookbook was the better homes and gardens quot;birthdays and family celebration.quot; My mom really loves these cookies so i thought it would be nice to bake them for her and surprise her.
Snowballs 1 c butter or margarine 1/2 c sifted icing sugar (powdered) 2 tsp vanilla 1 Tbs water 2-1/4 c Cake and pastry flour 1 c nuts, chopped Candied cherries Icing sugar (powdered) Cream together 1st two ingredients. Blend in next 2 ingr. Stir in next 2 ingr. Shape into small balls with a piece of candied cherry inside. Bake on ungreased baking sheet in 300 degree oven for 30-35 mins or until set. Cool slightly and roll in powdered sugar. Yield 5 dozen.

Hi, okorder /
Q: What does Home & Garden think of Heavy Metal?
We couldn't care less We like turtles `edit. Storm blew my outdoor plants over yesterday.
Q: I had an old, old version of the Better Homes and Gardens white and red checkered cookbook. I used to make an old Corn Chowder Recipe. Any one have it? or know where to get it? We're talking 50's or 60's. I can recall some of the ingredients: Brown Onions and bacon, add cubed potatoes and water. Corn, milk, bay leaf, can't remember anything else. I adapted it by putting in pieces of cooked chicken breast meat and tomato paste. Any one????
This sounds weird
Q: What are some good HOME IMPROVEMENT and/or INTERIOR DESIGN magazines in the Bay area and/or North America? I prefer high class to middle class magazines~~I am doing this project for my marketing class... I live in So Cal and I'm not so sure about anything quot;home improvement.quot; Hope you all can help me out~ Thank you!!! :)

Q: already i'm kind of sore from planting and weeding. it's so friggin chilly out even though a few days ago it was warm. How do i keep from getting bored by gardening? i enjoy it but sometime it leave me feeling jaded.
I loved Science lab as a kid and so I use the garden as a big Science play ground. I experiment with different mulches - deciding which works best for which plant...etc. I also play and do things like decorate a scarecrow, or use some found item as a decoration. I put a plant where it shouldn't be - like a flower in with the onions. I have some raised beds and some flat ground. I also raise at least 1 new type of vegetable every year - this year it is orach. I'm still drinkin the parsnip wine from 2 years ago! I'm also an Indiana Master Naturalist that enjoys doing talks on Wild Edibles. That means I get to leave what some people call weeds grow in my garden for food. Makes a great excuse if you don't get a chance to weed! Play - get dirty enjoy. Find a young child to take with you - that always gave me a new look at the wonders in the garden.
Q: is it ok to keep homing pigeons in the garden my neighbor has and he is telling me to keep my children in the house all the time so he can get them in it is really starting to upset me is there anything i can do about this
If you live in city limits, you need to check the ordinances and whatnot to see if there are any rules about keeping them. Besides possibly legally, there is nothing wrong with having homing pigeons in your back yard. They don't really make much noise (as opposed to roosters crowing or something), and they don't smell if they take care of them properly. And health wise, they pose no threat to you or your kids. There is no reason why you should have to keep your kids inside, unless they have been bothering the birds. If your neighbor knew what he/she was doing, he/she would not let the homers out until they are adjusted to their surroundings, which includes the sights and sounds of nearby children playing. After a while that will not stress the birds, and they should go inside their loft regardless. If he's having problems getting them to go inside, then either a predator is stressing them, or they let the birds out too early. Reason with your neighbor. You can always attempt to make a compromise, to where they don't bother you (as in telling you to lock your kids in the house), you won't bother them (as in you won't go looking for laws to force him to get rid of the birds). I would be upset too if I were you. But working things out is always the best way to go first, since anger breeds anger ;) Good luck! Becky
