- Q: Does anyone know of any companies that sell mobile cranes suited for extreme cold? I'm aware of Liebherr and Havator's harbor cranes, but I can't find much else.Thanks
- this is not my area of study but i will give you something to consider. if you are looking for a large capacity crane for use on permafrost, you wont find one. the pressure placed on the permafrost by large weights will cause it to melt. anything that is heavy, like a house, will sink in the tundra just like it will in a swamp. for houses they excavate the foundation a build a giant wooden raft that the hose floats on. in ST Petersburg, Russians preferred a mix of reeds and slave laborers corpses's to build the raft. as long as the ground is not frozen there is somebody how makes what you want. if the ground is frozen, you will only find small machinery. best of luck ps dont look to hard. lots of diesel engines work great at sub-subfreezing temps.

- Q: I am in dyer need of a camera jib wih very little budget and/or tools to build one. I am wondering if i can use a cymbal stand for a crash cymbal as a camera jib? My idea is to modufy it by attatching a small piece of wood to the top screw where you would put a cymbal the screw in an L piece (metal) to it or attach it ti the arm of the stand and just snigly fit it so as the arm is raised and lowered the L pice compensates and stays strait. i would attach the camcorder to the L piece with a 1/4 inch screw and washers. i also need the arm to move smoothly will this work with a crash stand. all advice i am grateful for thanks

- Q: if the crane starts out at ground level and the skyscraper is being built next to it, how does the crane get moved to the top of the building once the skyscraper has been built to the level of the top of the crane? (eg: the crane can reach a height of 30 stories but the building being const. is 100 stories)
- It is usually self-hoisting. There is motor and gear assenbly that lifts the crane within the tube (usually a future elevator shaft) the is constructed around it. Then it is bolted down and goes back to work.
