- Apparently that IS what they were called. Who knew? I would have guessed something a little more poetic like Dragon's Tail because it's long and straight, swings on a pivot and frequently has notches along to top for latching the bails of cooking pots and the like. Crane sounds so... so... ordinary.
- Q: How does a crane get down from a skyscraper once they're done using it? Like the crane on top of the skyscraper, do they get take it apart?
- realdolby is correct. Small crane from parts that can be transported in service elevator is brought up and assembled. It is used to swing out and lower larger crane's parts. Then the small crane is broken apart and taken down in elevator.

- Do you remember the formula for determining area? For a flat object (like your paper) the formula is Length X Width = Area. or LW=A So unfold your paper, and measure the length and the width, and simply multiply the two numbers. The resulting number will be your area. Of course, that is the area of the unfolded paper. Your crane in it's folded form will have a much different, and harder to find, surface area value.
- Q: The cantilever part has to stay at least 6-12 inches off the ground.
- Then how are you interlocking the popsicle sticks? Most projects like this allow for thread and glue. OK.. so you can glue them and, I assume, cut them. Use a truss system made out of small pieces of split sticks to build and strengthen the support of your crane and make that long arm out of a series of sticks that form an interlocking triangle when you look into the arm. Stagger the triangle pieces so that no two joints are in the same location and then glue small splints to the inside of the long pieces.at ecah of those joints. If you have no weight limit and the support column will hold it, consider filling the triangle with a coating of glue.. be sure to allow several days for it to dry. That way the glue will also add an element of strength Take your tme, use a strong glue if you have that option - like Gorilla Glue, ,and build it in sections. Be sure to let the glue dry fully before moving on to the next stage. For the triangle portion, you can use thread to bind the pieces into a triangle shape until the glue dries and then remove the thread and use light sand paper to remove any residue. for the counterweight of the cantilever, fashion a small box out of pieces of sticks and fill it with a dense glue. As the glue hardens and compacts add more glue. When the glue has fully dried, remove the sticks unless you are still within your 150 count. That way the glue serves two functios and your instructions do not prohibit this. Hope that helps

- A clear Glass vase would be cool, the colors of the cranes would make it decorative, and he could reach in to read one whenever he needs a pick me up. It is especially a good idea for the hospital, since they sometimes frown on flowers for allergy reasons. I also love the idea of a mobile, but that would be huge and time consuming, also the messages would be hard to read. But perhaps you could take 20 and turn those into a mobile, tie them to a stick with sewing thread, and plant the stick in the jar or vase you use to display the others.
