Q: Roof just installed in July 2011. Had to have the roofer back to cut some shingles near the dormer that were too long and sticking up. The roof first leaked in the living room from the high hat lights and around the casement window. Roofer came and caulked around dormer window and put holes in the j channel. Then it leaked in the bedroom. I hired a home inspector for $175 who found nothing (no water or stain in attic). Roofer couldn't find anything either but home inspector said he did something little on the roof before he got up there so I don't know the whole story. Now it is leaking again from the casement window (but not the high hat). This roof was very costly and they removed all the old plywood and replaced it with new plywood. Home inspector suspects the dormer. What recourse do we have after we have three leaks and the installer cannot find the leak?
If you want to fix the leak then this may help. Often the problem with dormer window leaks is with the window sill fitting and window drain design. See my video on how to fix dormer window water leaks.
Q: I have a 2001 Honda Civic EX and I am having the hardest time figuring out how to test to find out which of the wires in my car turn each different motor and which way as well they turn to my windows and sun roof. When I test the wires coming from the switch from the door handle I get all the same drop in voltage and polarity when I switch one of the switches. I am unable to isolate which wire does what function to the windows and sun roof. What am I doing wrong to find this out? I believe it is either the wrong wires or the wrong way of testing. I need this to hook up my DEI 530t if that helps anyone.Thanks.
It really helps if you have an electrical schematic. many power windows and sunroofs have relays, some in some really strange places, that complicate troubleshooting and analysis. If you have a Chilton or Haynes repair manual, they usually have acceptable schematics. Some dealers are helpful (some not) in their service departments to give print outs from their computer knowledge base, if you ask 'em just right or have a friend. Sorry, the only manual I have for a Civic stops at '95. I wouldn't know how to do it without a schematic. It tells you what color wires go where and which ones are hot and when. There are also Honda forums, even manual sharing online. Good Luck!
Q: I live in a condo that says the skylights are considered windows and our bylaws doesn't say anything about skylights and the roof. Does anyone know if skylights are part of the roof or are they considered windows. If anyone knows the answer to this question, I would really appreciate hearing from you. Thank you for reading my question and have a wonderful day.
From a building code perspective, skylights are considered roof penetrations and have to be handled like vents, chimneys, etc. But you're talking about condo and bylaws, and that suggests that your concern isn't solely structural. If the bylaws say something about windows, and skylights are included as windows, then there you are. I don't think quoting building techniques is going to get your skylights reclassified in the eyes of the people enforcing the bylaws.
Q: So we really need new windows, a new roof, new appliances, and want to redo the bathroom. Obviously windows and roof are more important then the other two! I think we will be getting back a decent return (a minimum of 6500) and we will be doing all the work ourselves. Haven't looked into how much the materials are going to cost yet but since we are doing everything ourselves I think we might be able to get windows and a roof and maybe even have some left over to do something else. Not sure though. So what should we do out of the things listed?
are you sure you are able to replace your own roof? that is a pretty tough job. It is also the most important part of your house (ask any insurance agent) I don't think 6500 will be enough to cover both projects. My mother had her roof replaced 2 years ago(1500 sq ft ranch with architectural shingles 30 yr warranty) these were her price quotes: one man single contractor-$9k three man crew-$7800 and here's the kicker........... Home Depot $17,000!!!! yeah, for that price she could have bought a brand new car!!!! so, i guess you know which one she went with? good luck getting it done, hope this info was helpful!
Q: The feng shui of the inclined roof window will not be ok. The The There are satisfactory answers chase fifty, live place, please also help more
Feng shui is certainly not good. Generally use the ceiling to make up for this defect. But some people do not care or nothing. It is recommended that the roof of the house be used for the study room.
Q: My passenger window and sun roof move slower than the driver's side, mostly because I almost never use them. The dealer told me they can lubricate the weather stripping and that will make the windows move smoother. They want a lot of money for it so I thought I would ask if anyone knows what kind of lubricant they use
I agree with WD40. A real lite rub with a clean silicon grease works good as well. Don't use to much as it can rub off on clothing.
Q: Is the government tax rebate for energy efficient replacement of roofs and windows a one time slush pile, or can you qualify for $1500 for roofing and $1500 for windows?
And, you have to actually OWE $1500 in tax to see a benefit. If you don't owe, you don't get anything. (PS, this was a 2 year credit. If you already used it in 2009, then you wouldn't have anything left for 2010.)
Q: What brand of roof sunroof is good
Import brand: Wei Lukes VELUX domestic brands: An peace and day, the United States home, sea Court
Q: Does the house now have a roof window that can be installed in a hole? If you can, but the location is high, how to open? Will there be mosquitoes in summer? Will the interior of the ground be damaged by direct sunlight? More
Usually the location of the roof skylight is your hand enough to open the skylight, easy to open. Size has five specifications are 78 * 9878 **** 140. If the location is too high, it is recommended to do electric window, anti-mosquito you can be a screen window, skylight is controlled in the tempered glass, the effect of insulation loft, you can also install curtains, the floor is not destroyed!
