- As far as the roof estimates would start with: -if you needed the entire roof torn off & re-done -if there was 1 roof or 2 (if they previously re-layed the new roof over the old). -& of course how big & type of materials used/wanted Now the windows would start with: -how many needed to be replaced -the size of the windows -the type of window (vinyl or alumiunm) plus...trim or no trim. I have a single family home with a slanted roof. I got an estimate for 5 thousand for a new roof. I already had the windows replaced for 12 thousand. (18 large windows, 2 frosted) They're all double hung vinyl windows with the trim done. (thank god we have a LIFE TIME WARENTY, that is transferable) Good Luck!

- The same as you do for your roof, lay it out from the bottom to the top. If you're asking because your cap is close under a soffit, you may need to use an air stapler & roofing cement in a tube (caulking gun). Nail & staple as far as you can, then glue the last few in place. Good luck...

- Yes there is. Home improvement towards a more efficient home are available. Check with your state government. Loans are not free you pay them back. Grants are free money given to you for a specific reason. But some states pay for repairs and upgrades done to your home if you qualify. I believe they receive a certain amount of money each year to do this. So be quick! As an electrician I have worked on some of these homes. I have also directed people in need to the state agency involved and been paid directly by the state.
