- when you say check valve do you mean the foot valve that keeps the water from draining back to the well. it would be at the lowest pipe hanging in your well. it sounds to me like your problem is a leaking foot valve

- A picture would help. But if you are talking about a Bronze P-trap pipe being corroded then I think I can help. There are two options if all that is bad are the threads then you can cut that off the old P-trap and replace it with a P-trap that uses compression fittings. IF the Bronze P-trap pipe is too bad off usually you will find that there is also a large copper pipe it is soldered too. What I do is cut off the old Bronze P-trap at the copper piece. If you can, remove the Bronze piece from the copper pipe with a torch. I like to do this when possible but it is not mandatory. Clean up what ever you have left and use a compression replacement P-trap. I use PVC. They last longer. I can't see what you see so if this is not helpful then a picture would help us better answer this question.

- Yes, it certainly should be replaced, most probably with PVC, that would be the least expensive and longest lasting. Actually this is a fairly simple job, which most anyone with a little time and a modicum of mechanical ability could do. It would only require that you purchase a length of PVC of the proper size, apparently 3 is what you would need, cut it to the length needed to fill the hole you have left when you cut off the leaking section. Then buy a couple of rubber boots, called Fernco fittings, which have the hose clamps attached to the ends. They come in sizes to adapt from one size pipe to another, so you would need some that go from 3 to 2. Put them on, put the pipe in place, tighten the clamps and you're good to go. Probably wouldn't hurt to put a support in the center of the length of pipe. A plumber would most likely charge $100 - $150 for this job.

- OH boy! I have seen this kind of jury rig job before! You will likely have to cut open the wall around the pipe to get to the leak. If it is galvanized pipe in the wall, you need to measure the outside diameter of the connection, (probably a tee) and go to your home center and get a Fernco connector. This is a black rubber connector with hose clamps on each end. You need one that will fit over the end of the fitting in the wall, and then you can tighten it with a screwdriver. Now you can go to PVC pipe and do whatever fittings needed to make it fit the sink drain.
