Q: If you were a single woman with no man around, how would you fix a hole in the ceiling from water damage? And the roof? On a budget. Is this possible for a small woman to do this job by herself? Can someone give me step by step instructions? Photo of the damage attatched.
First take a ruler and pencil, make a square out line. try and find the studs and ONLY cut to the middle of the studs with a Razor Knife, You will need something to screw the new peace of sheet rock on to, so don't go over the stud. Once you get old peace down, you will more than likely have to do some repair to your plumbing or ceiling, as this is leaking somewhere. Look up Youtube for further instructions. Other person above has a good idea on joint compound.
Q: I have a den that has 12inch acoustic ceiling tile that drips water sometimes when the weather is cool.I have checked and the attic above it is thoroughly insulated. The tile was installed on furring strips direct up against the fiberglass insulation, with no drywall in between the two, materials. The roof has ridge vents and the soffits, has perforated panels. There is also a 4 foot recessed fluorescent light in the center of the ceiling that looks like a week-end novice creation, that leaks cold air around it,a little. I have lived here for 10 years and have had this problem, the entire time. Two years I had the roof replaced thinking that it would solve my problem , because the ceiling was sprouting wet spots, randomly every where. What can I do about this madness?
Moisture or condensation occurs when relatively warm-moist air comes in contact with a cold surface. You need to either eliminate the air leakage supplying the moist air, or do something (usually insulate) the surface to keep it's temperature warmer to prevent condensation or a combination of both.

Q: I'm looking to move into a new apartment by the end of the month. It's in a good location, however the only down side is that the neighbors upstairs have kids and they run a day care during the day. Luckily I work and won't be home until 5:30 or so, but just by visiting the place today I could hear them walking upstairs and I'm sure that it's going to annoy me.I would like to know if anybody has any ideas on how to noise proof my ceiling for a reasonable price. Is there some kind of paint that effectively noise proofs walls and such, or would I have to wreck the ceiling and place fiberglass or something of the sort in order to ensure that I don't hear them walking or they don't hear me playing loud music and such.Any help is appreciated, thanks!
If you are certain that you are going to be annoyed by the neighbors and will have to invest a lot of time and money in the apartment just to get it to an acceptable state, WHY MOVE IN THERE?
Q: My A\C and Heater have problems keeping up in Hot\cold weather. Its summer now (I live in the Stl area) and when its 90+ sunny my house will not get colder than 80 degrees A\C going non stop. The A\C is putting out anywhere from 59-62 degrees and from what I can tell is sized properly. In my ceiling is blown in insulation at about 4-5" sitting just above the 2x4s some places more some less. The vaulted ceiling being a little more at around 6" Is this enough? Is my problem the Heating\Cooling unit or is there not enough insulation?
The minimum ceiling insulation should be R-30, with R-40 being the norm in the northern part of the U.S. The depth of insulation required to produce a R-30 depends on the type of insulation. Blown-in fiberglass will have about R-2.25 per inch, blown-in cellulose has about R-3.5 per inch and fiberglass batt has about R-3 per inch. In case you're not sure what type you have, fiberglass insulation looks like cotton candy, while cellulose looks likes ground-up newspaper. Batts are the best to install as there will be less airborne particles to breath, get in your eyes, etc. You just cut them to size and lay them across the ceiling joist so they seal any gaps caused by the ceiling joist, fans, light fixtures, etc.
Q: I'm thinking of adding a ceiling to my porch to create an insulation space (the roof alone radiates a lot of direct heat in the summer; the porch otherwise is open) between it and the roof (corrugated fiberglass) but I'd like to still be able to see the roof as I've already painted the roof's interior and like how it contrasts with the supporting frame's color.I'm also looking to paint the exterior of the roof to better waterproof it (some leaks where previous owner screwed it in) and to better reflect light to further reduce heat. Any suggestion on paint or would it be better to just replace the roof entirely with better material? Thanks!
You can many ways could go.
Q: What is fiberglass?
Fiberglass is the whitewashed wall is the time in the mortar to add some fiberglass so that after the powder up the glass and then pull the wall will not crack this thing is very good use of our site to use the external walls of the whole The wall is much clearer
Q: When I moved into my house the ceiling was cracked from the ceiling fan out to the walls in two directions. I don't want to put new wall board up and repairing the crack is not possible according to my Husband. What are some ways to cover the ceiling up?
Get some plaster or drywall mud and fill it in. It won't fix the problem but it will get rid of the crack. Paint over it and be done with it.
Q: What signs on plastic products are non-toxic
HDPE high density polyethylene Common white vials, cleaning supplies, bath products. Do not use it again Cups, or used to make other containers. Clean is not complete, do not use.
Q: Will the attic insulation how to do?
Polyurethane rigid foam plastic thermal conductivity is very small, high thermal resistance, with good thermal insulation properties, insulation, energy saving is the best new material.
