- Q:I can rent a small/medium sized excavator. not a mini, but not a huge one....will use it mostly to dig out stumps and move some boulders, but do you know if its capable ot pushing over pines and birches up to 6 to 8 inches in diameter? Id love to just level clear an acre or so..... Thoughts?
- If your aim is to clear an acre, you should invest in a good chainsaw,preferably 18-20 inch bar.Once you have downed the trees, rent a stump grinder for a week (or more) and remove the stumps. Then rent the backhoe for the boulders. A backhoe is not the ideal choice for all of these assorted tasks.If you have never downed trees before, I would have some one along in case of an accident and to assist in lining up where you need to cut the tree to have it fall where you want it. Suggestions: to have a tree fall in the correct direction, take a walk around it to see which way it leans (if at all) and if there is anything in it's falling path (vehicles, people, etc). The proper way to do this is to make your first cut on the front side, this will be a V cut (falling side) up to 1/2 to 3/4 of the diameter of the tree. Then on the opposite side cut straight through to about 1 or 2 inches of the the first cut and move directly back away from the tree as it falls.Wear eye. ear, hand protection.

- Sweetie,I honestly believe it's like I said he is going through a midlife crisis. He could leave you during this if you don't get some marriage counseling. Do not take no from him about it either....he needs to go. I would really be watching him because he may already be having an affair with someone. The motorcycle would be a good excuse to get away for a nice ride to somewhere or with someone. I don't mean to upset you but at this point he is up to something if you ask me. I am an older woman and went through this with my husband and I said therapy or no more marriage with me. It's very scary when you love someone and they start changing and the intimacy stops and you wonder why he even bothers to stay if he so miserable. A midlife crisis does not mean that a man cannot control himself and make rational choices so if he does something here against his marriage do not accept this as an excuse. I am not kidding you what is it with these boy scouts....my husband was also a scout leader for years...maybe this is a sign that they are still little immature boys .... I don't know? All I can tell you is to get on line or go to a book store and look up the signs of men in crisis because he sure sounds like he is and you need to get the best information on how to handle your situation because every relationship is different. - If you don't like it your not gonna last, do something you like to do. If you want to work on Heavy Vehicles talk to you counciler they can usually point you in the right direction. I can give you pros and cons, but my oppinion might be differnt from your or the next person. Hope this helps you out
