Q: Can solar panels be used to power a public transportation system?
Yes, solar panels can be used to power a public transportation system. By installing solar panels on the rooftops of public transportation vehicles or on charging stations at transit hubs, the energy generated from the sun can be harnessed to provide power for electric buses, trams, or trains. This reduces reliance on traditional energy sources and helps to make public transportation more sustainable and environmentally friendly.
Q: Hey guys :)Well I'm in the middle of doing my PSHCE coursework on sustainable energy, focusing on solar panels. I just wanted to ask you what your opinions are of them? Are they really worth it? Are they sustainable? Will they reduce our energy bills? Those sort of questions :)If you are interested in installing solar panels, please mention that, as it would be great! There's lots of information about them on this site ----
I have a boat in a sunny place and four 80 watt panels. These will run my fridge Tv and a few LED's. I still have to run my engine for hot water and washing machine. My Batteries only last a few years and are a real pain. I go on the mains when I can to get the batteries topped up. The panels are ok if there is nothing else, they are not the answer to the future of energy supply. There is also the moral aspect of the feed in tariff. For the rich to load their electricity bill onto the less well off is not acceptable and those panels on the roof tell all your neighbors that you are doing it. That will show a greedy selfish attitude. If they are any good why don't the power companies buy them and save buying coal?
Q: Mono-crystalline or poly-crystalline solar panel?
All solar photovoltaics drop in efficiencies with higher temperatures but it isn't the 45+ C you have to worry about but rather the heat from the sunlight striking the panels. There are hybrid systems which passes water in pipes attached to the back of the solar panels to cool the panels and preheat the water for solar thermal collectors. The difference between mono-crystalline and poly-crystalline are that mono-crystalline are more efficient and more costly to make.
Q: I need a new roof soon and I was wondering what the difference in cost would be from a standard shingle roof to a roof including solar panels. Does anyone know the cost difference?
The solar panels are very expensive to provide much power. If u go that way do not skimp on the support as a high wind will blow them away. In Ecuador I put in a remote site for communications. It was working good when a Strong wind blew $0.000 worth of solar panels all over the jungle.
Q: I'm looking to see how much it would be to install solar panels on a home. Or more information on where i would be able to locate a place of purchase, or in general more information...
A Solar panel usually cost between $0,000-20,000 and more. If you're not wanting to spend that much, I suggest you try the DIY solar panel guides. These are step-by-step guides in building solar panels. They are very cheap and overall, you can get solar panels for less than $200. The guide will help you choose where to buy and what to buy so you won't spend thousands of dollars. Whether you're a beginner or an expert, you can do it. If you're interested, just click on the link below. I also added some links where you can read reviews about these guides. Goodluck!
Q: Can solar panels be installed on disaster relief shelters?
Yes, solar panels can be installed on disaster relief shelters. Solar panels provide a sustainable source of energy and can help power essential equipment and devices in these shelters, such as lights, communication systems, and medical equipment. This reduces the dependency on traditional energy sources and ensures uninterrupted power supply in critical situations. Additionally, solar panels are lightweight and portable, making them suitable for temporary shelters and easy to transport to affected areas.
Q: I riped two solar panels out of some solar light and tested them. I found out that they both produce 2 volts(I have no idea on the watts or amps). Iquot;ve hooked them up to an electric motor that can be driven by a AA battery, but when I hook the solar panels up to them nothing happens. What is wrong?
The solar cells you have are not providing enough current to operate the motor. There are special low power motors which can operate directly from a solar cell but it sounds like you do not have one of these. Instead you have a common .5V DC hobby motor which requires substantially more current to operate. You can use the original circuit to charge the batteries and use the charged batteries to run the motor. The batteries would be able to supply enough current to operate the motor, but for a limited time. 8 hours of charging might give you less than 5 minutes of motor operation. An LED will draw about 20ma. In a solar light such a small current draw from an LED or two can provide hours of light. A Small DC motor might easily require 300ma to run and over 500ma to start. Running a motor from the same battery at over 5 times the current draw will result in less than /5 of the run time compared to the low current LED. So if an LED operates for 300 minutes the motor would run for less than 20.... The small solar cell size cannot provide enough current to operate the motor directly. Only by slowly charging a battery first would you be able to use the collected and stored Solar energy to operate your motor.
Q: Where in the world are solar panels used. If it is used widespread across a continent just say which continent, other than that, just name the country. So where are solar panels used often?
Many okorder /... I have friends in Northern Michigan who use solar panels and wind generator for all their energy. They have been doing it for almost 20 years.
Q: I used to live from my car and i am soon returning to that way.I want a solar panel to a battery to a surge protector so that i can use a portable wifi box and my laptop at the same time. Also i would charge my phone occasionally.I would like the charge to be enough for several days in case of cloudy weather.I just do not want anything to short circuit or ruin my laptop etc.Is thete a way to get this? What do i need or what exactly should i look into?
Actually they do make these... u have one but the voltage is no guaranteed as depends on the radiation from sunlight. I have a 8v 60Watt folding solar panel... works great and does charge laptop but not consistent. It works better when you also have an external battery with you as well. Battery will charge laptop Solar panel will charge battery Also most important... put laptop screen on super dim / power savior mode or else laptop will eat up energy. I have a desktop replacement hp laptop and able to keep it charged at 9volts just under 2amps... (38 watts)... on power save mode of course ALLPOWERS 8v 60Watt folding solar panel charger Also.... Poweradd Pilot 30000mAh multi-voltage (9v -20v) portable chargers. Remember solar panels are nothing without batteries... not just for storing at night but also storing all the energy you can get. If not you would only be powering the load
