Q:How do solar panels affect roof warranty?
Solar panels can potentially affect roof warranties because their installation requires drilling holes in the roof, which can compromise its integrity. However, many solar companies offer warranties that cover any damages caused by the installation process, ensuring that the roof warranty remains intact. It is important to check with both the solar company and the roofing manufacturer to understand the impact of solar panels on the roof warranty.
Q:Are there any government incentives or rebates for installing solar panels?
Yes, there are various government incentives and rebates available for installing solar panels. These incentives can include federal tax credits, state and local rebates, grants, and loan programs. These incentives aim to promote renewable energy adoption, reduce carbon emissions, and make solar panel installations more affordable for homeowners and businesses. It is advisable to research and consult with local authorities or solar energy providers to determine the specific incentives available in your area.
Q:Can solar panels be installed on agricultural land?
Yes, solar panels can be installed on agricultural land. In fact, solar farms are often installed on vast stretches of agricultural land as it provides a dual benefit of producing renewable energy while allowing the land to continue being used for farming. This practice is known as agrivoltaics or dual-use solar, where solar panels are mounted above crops, providing shade and optimizing land use efficiency.
Q:Can solar panels be installed on a government building?
Yes, solar panels can be installed on a government building. In fact, many government buildings have already implemented solar energy systems to reduce their carbon footprint and lower energy costs.
Q:Are there any limitations to the lifespan of solar panels?
Yes, there are limitations to the lifespan of solar panels. Over time, solar panels experience a gradual decrease in efficiency due to factors like exposure to environmental elements, wear and tear, and potential manufacturing defects. Additionally, the materials used in solar panels may degrade over time, which can affect their performance and overall lifespan. However, with proper maintenance and regular inspections, solar panels can typically last for 25 to 30 years or even longer.
Q:i am trying to get it to work on solar power They are outdoors and we dont feel like running a few hundred feet of power cables. Thanks and best answer will get 0 points.
Research using solar panels on stock tank water pumps. Same concept - you use a solar panel to power a remote something or other, only you would have to use a battery charged by day to run the camera at night. It does not look like you would need too powerful of a solar panel, the camera server says it needs less than 5w, no idea on the cameras, so check that out, but the whole system looks rather low power. You could easily get the necessary panels, maybe the battery too, for... I would say $200 (not in one package, you would have to get separate things). Connection of everything would be simple, no electrician needed (but keep that to yourself, depending upon state rules and regs).
Q:I am currently building a house, iv designed it to be as self sustainable as possible, I'm in the process of installing solar panels but as I'm ordering online I was hoping someone here could tell me how many I would need to completely run a 5 bedroom home, just standard household appliances such as fridge and freezers, plasma tvs computers and of course lighting, various things like that, also I'll need power storage as well, some type of large rechargeable battery, any help would be great.
A typical home in America can use either electricity or gas to provide heat -- heat for the house, the hot water, the clothes dryer and the stove/oven. If you were to power a house with solar electricity, you would certainly use gas appliances because solar electricity is so expensive. This means that what you would be powering with solar electricity are things like the refrigerator, the lights, the compute?r, the TV, stereo equipment, motors in things like furnace fans and the washer, etc. Let's say that all of those things average out to 600 watts on average. Over the course of 24 hours, you need 600 watts * 24 hours = 4,400 watt-hours per day. From our calculations and assumptions abo?ve, we know that a solar panel can generate 70 milliwatts per square inch * 5 hours = 350 milliwatt hours per day. Therefore you need about 4,000 square inches of solar panel for the house. That's a solar panel that measures about 285 square feet (about 26 square meters). That would cost around $6,000 right now. Then, because the sun only shines part of the time, you would need to purchase a battery bank, an inverter, etc., and that often doubles the cost of the installation. If you want to have a small room air conditioner in your bedroom, double everything.
Q:Solar panels are all divided into these squares, forming a grid like pattern. Is it possible to have a single piece of solar panel?
Solar cells are semiconductor devices like computer chips. Current manufacturing methods create small squares of semiconductors. Companies are researching ways to make thin film solar cells that can be painted on or manufactured in large, possibly flexible sheets, but so far the technology to do that is still more expensive than making little squares and then assembling them into big panels. That may change in the near future, but I can't be sure.
Q:Can solar panels be used to power outdoor lighting?
Yes, solar panels can be used to power outdoor lighting. Solar-powered outdoor lighting systems typically consist of solar panels that collect and convert sunlight into electricity, which is then stored in batteries. This stored energy is used to power the outdoor lighting fixtures at night or in low-light conditions. This sustainable and cost-effective solution eliminates the need for traditional electrical wiring and reduces energy consumption.
Q:I just connected my 5 Watt 2V solar panel directly to my 300 Watt 2 inverter. It worked for about 2 minutes then it popped (sparks, smoke etc)! What the hell did I do wrong? I thought the solar panel was 2 volts? Can someone with experience with these things help me out?
Those tiny inverters that plug into cigarette lighters are horrendously inefficient, as they assume you have the car's battery and alternator at their disposal. It's possible that the inverter itself needs 50 watts without even attaching a load at the output. Second, many 5-watt amorphous panels are too optimistically rated, and may only deliver 5 watts in the best sun. Given that, the inverter probably failed from undervoltage at the input. This is why there is always a battery connected. The idea is that the battery is charged over a long period of time by the panel, then discharged quickly by the inverter. The panel is probably fine. You can short the outputs, and generally nothing is harmed.
