- Since you have gas to the home, a small gas space heater or small wall gas furnace would really be the best solution. Gas costs about half the price of electricity for heating. So pay back time would not be long, maybe a single season. But I realize with the loss of one income money is tight. Heating with the stove is a very bad idea. A stove is not vented. Even with cooking with a stove you should run the fan and have a window open, as advised. I have seen stoves set off carbon monoxide detectors from cooking a stew or pot of beans for a long time on low with no outside air or fans running. In my motor home we have a propane gas catalytic heater that was cheap and didn't need a vent. But I am not secure how safe that really is. But you might be able to find a small gas heater that will work for you. Good Luck.
- Q:Hello,I will be laying laminate wood flooring over concrete. Can I alternatively use 6 mil or greater plastic sheeting as moisture barrier found in the construction materials aisle instead of flooring? I found one from Lowe's: Item# 64430 Model# C101006BK, Sunbelt 10' x 100' Black 6Mil Plastic Sheeting for $57.30. It is cheaper and thicker than those found next to the wood flooring materials. The box says it is good for vapor barrier. Even the 4 mil type feels thicker than those found at flooring section.Most flooring site mentioned that the minimum is 6 mil. Does that mean any 6 mil plastic sheeting will be acceptable?Thanks.
- Yes you need the moisture barrier and it also helps with the hollow sound of the laminate. when you go to put down the barrier make sure to keep it a little long at the walls, make sure seams are tight and taped together with duct tape it will help keep out the moisture. after the floor is installed go back and trim the edges of the barrier but keep enough to sort of tuck under the edge of the wall, if you have moisture coming in you want it to go under the barrier not on top it will cause the floor to mold, expand, warp etc.

- Builder's Square (now out of business) used to carry them. I bought some and attached them to a three-panel screen to use when I practiced tap dancing. Home Depot and Lowe's carried them at one time in their plexiglas sheets department, near the hardware, and in their ceiling panels department, near the lighting. If you have a Sutherlands Lumber near you, you might check with them.

- Hardware stores sell large sheets of plastic to lay down over furniture for protection when painting. But these sheets aren't sticky like you are describing. Those plastic sheets don't have any adhesive on them. They stick because the very clean plastic sheets are applied to other pieces of very clean plastic. The closest you can get to this with a product from a local store would be plastic window covering that is applied to a wet window then the excess water is squeegied out. Look for a store that specializes in window treatments. Ask for tinted window plastic. Auto supply stores often have this in sizes for car windows. Unfortunately these products are a lot more expensive than the sheets sold for painting.

- there are a wide variety of UV protective plastic sheeting in many hardware stores and online you do know however, just protecting the labels from UV light won't protect them from the actual light, which can still cause the labels to fade.

- No, plastic sheets cannot be used as insulation against electricity as they are not electrically insulating materials.
