Force feedback will only work with the power adapter. After you got the wheel, remember to call Microsoft support (toll free number at the link below) and tell them the serial number of the wheel. A small batch of wheels can start to smoke if you connect them to the electrical outlet. Microsoft will retrofit the wheel if neccessary for free.
