- Q: How many tiles measuring 450mm x 450mm do i nedd to cover an area of 6m x 2m?
- Your answer is 60 tiles (actually about 59 and 1/4 tiles). 1 meter = 100 centimeters = 1,000 mm Area: 6 meters X 1000 = 6,000 mm 2 meters X 1,000 = 2,000 mm 6,000 mm X 2,000 mm = 120,000,000 mm2 Each tile: 450 mm X 450 mm = 202,500 mm2 Number of tiles: 120,000,000 mm2 : 202,500 mm2 = 59.26 tiles or ~59 1/4 tiles. An easier way is to convert the whole thing to meters. That will avoid all the confusing zeros, while the result remains the same (as using inches rather then 1/16 or 1/32. lol).

- Nope. I think tile stays in style no matter what. Ceramic, oak, granite marble will always be in style. I think the glass backsplashes they're doing with the long thin rectangles will be out of style before you can blink though.
- Q: We‘re renovating an old house, and the ceramic tile on the bathroom walls is just awful. I‘d like to replace the wall tile with beadboard. The tiles appear to be mortared directly onto the drywall. Is it a good idea to install the beadboard directly over the ceramic tile? Or should we chip of the tile or remove the lower portion of the drywall? I‘d like to do this as easily as possible, but not at the risk of shoddy workmanship.Also - all the beadboards I‘ve looked at are either painted or primed on the front surface, with a bare wood surface on the rear (glued to the wall). Is it advisable to paint/prime the rear surface as well before installation? With all the steam and moisture in a bathroom, I can envision the panels buckling. Is there a particular paint/primer that seals off from moisture particularly well?
- Do the tiles look awful because some are missing, cracked or what? The reason I ask is because, there are companies who can come in and change the color of your tiles and renew the grout--which is a lot simpler than trying to pull them down or covering them with wood. If you cover them with wood there will be many airspaces between the wood and tile that can collect moisture which leads to mold--I don't think you want to do that. So, if the tile is in good shape, why not contact a company that refinishes and ask for an estimate? My best friend had aqua and black in one of her bathrooms and pink and gray in the other, when she bought her fixer upper house. She had the tiles refinished and I was so amazed at the results! She has lived in the place 9 years and the tiles still look like brand new.
- Q: Is it possiable to stain or paint a ceramic tile floor. If so what are the steps I need to take to do it.We laid it about a year ago. My husband picked it out and it just does not look good next to the other tile he put in. I would hate to rip it out and lay a new one.Would the paint sets you buy at home depot for your garage floors work?
- Your tile is most probably a glazed ceramic, meaning no paints would be able to penetrate to the biscuit. This means that all your paint would flake off over time. There is a glue on the market called Optima, and it is made by ABA Ardex. This glue comes in two parts, and it enables you to tile directly over tile. It isn't cheap though, so be weary when doing large areas. Other than that, most flexable glues would work if you remove 80% of the glaze, which means taking a grinder to the floor, which is hard and DIRTY work. If you were to do this, I would reccommend Abaflex.
- Q: Well I grouted my glass tile backsplash today and let it dry, now it is ready to be cleaned off, but i am completely exhausted! can i clean it off tomorrow or will it be too late? grout container said to let it dry for 4 hrs before cleaning off with a dry cloth. yeah right, a dry cloth does not do the trick. only a damp linen cloth used to scrub each individual little tile gets the haze and bits of left over grout off and that is going to literally take me all night. so can i do that tomorrow or do i need to pull an all nighter???
- no longer something is needed, in basic terms use a moist sponge and rinse frequently. once you have wiped each and all the surplus grout off the tiles, enable them to dry over night, then wipe down the tile with a delicate fabric (tub Towel) this would take off the haze on the tile. Then all this is left is to seal the grout.

- Q: Can I leave them alone and simply go over them w/ mud and ceramic tile . I really don‘t want to open the hazmat can of worms by getting the tiles tested.The tiles look like that mutfti pattern common in office buildings and schools and secured w/ a mastic.Thanks
- I believe the general rule in vinyl flooring or tiles is if it was manufactured before 1984 it probably has asbestos in it.....since it is old tile which probaby has some edges that are somewhat risen in spots,I recommend going over the floor with quarter inch plywood or luan,which should solve the problem.....
- Q: Remodeling a bathroom, using 4x4 ceramic wall tiles and have an old porcelain wall-mount sink.QUESTION: Do I put screws through the tile and put the mount OVER the tile, hanging the sink that way OR do I hang the sink on the untiled wall and tile around it?Thanks for your help!
- 1-locate studs / eye balling as well for centering of bracket 2- cut hardwood strip to match wall mounting bracket' {2x as thick as tile, this allows for a good thick bead of caulking counter sunk, so to speak around behind the sink, thus hiding the sealer /after step #10 } 3-drill screw strip to wall, being conscious to : set the screws so they are offset to sink bracket's screw placement. 4- attach wall bracket 5- practice hang sink/ checking the fit 6-NOW, draw a pencil line tracing the sink 7- remove sink 8-TILE TIME [LOL] Now you can tile up to the bracket [wasting tiles].NO! Now it gets easy! This method reduces your tile cutting. 9- Tile the wall, using FULL tiles up to the pencil mark {if it is :LESS than 1/2 a tile to the Line , slap a full tile on , if you want 10- { 1/2 a tile inside the trace mark is plenty, if you don't want to be bothered cutting you don't have to . Note: Leave the edge here , till your done all your other tile ,'cause you might have good 1/2 or 3/4 pieces that you can trim it with}...Or just go back and put full tiles to cover. - Q: hi guys,i had a new shower which was leaking (no waterproofing where it was leaking from..), therefore i have taken off some of the tiles where the water was leaking from and i have waterproofed it with the paste + fibreglass. before i tile, i would like to have a shower to make sure that the water wont leak. am i able to do that? in theory i dont see a problem, but is it ok to get the waterproofing membrane so wet? thanks
- getting it wet and/or testing it is fine, don't get any soap or other chemicals on it that may interfere with the bonding of the tiles, you will also need to let it dry sufficiently before tiling
