Application of Our Polished Porcelain Tile:

Q: I‘m tiling a bathroom counter and have all my supplies but not sure I purchased the right trowel. I purchased a square-notched trowel 1/4x1/4x1/4. What is the difference between this one and the one I see commonly used on tv and on other tiling jobs...the razor tooth edge type?
I tile every day of my life, and I want to assume these Stone Tiles are at least Milled flat on one side, though if they are RAW, not production glazed, I wouldn't be using them on a counter top. I also don't always use 1/4 inch mortar beads on counter tops, often choosing 1/8, (In the same Tool you purchased). Floor tiles yes, always. That's just a personal choice and not a Law set in stone (no pun intended). You have the correct tool for Thinset. The saw edge applicators, are usually used for mastics/Adhesive tile setting materials, which are also, often used for counter tops, Not very practical for tile or stone. Steven Wolf just my two sense
Q: I am looking for an obsolete 8X8 ceramic tile I believe was made by Interceramic. It‘s described on my original sales slip from 1999 as IC WestPalm Surf It‘s solid white in color and has a slight pebble texture. I need to modify my kitchen some and don‘t want to tear up the entire floor to install new type tile. Any ideas how to find this tile if there‘s any left out there.
IC did away with the 8x8 tile about 8 to 10 years ago .. They revamped there line to a 10 and 13 inch tile..10 didn t last long at all..Soon the did away with most all the red bodied tile.. So please don t even bother trying.. You will have to do something else , like a border and or accents. There were reclamation places that bought up old lots of tile but none that I know about now.. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar.. GL
Q: for making cement decorative hand made cement tile there is device sometime call cookie cutter also to portrait some design is called divider
The metal frame that divides the tile into different sections is made from strips of metal carefully bent and soldered into place. I have seen steel ones and also brass mold patterns. The key to it is to have the bottom of the strips perfectly flat and level so that when you pour in the liquid cement mix, each color stays in its own compartment. See the link below to see a mold pattern and also the finished tile from it. A lot of history and more photos are on the second link.
Q: I have plain jane 4 white ceramic tile and it does not go with my new room colors for my bath....can this be painted?
Why don't you get Wallies or decals and decorate the white tiles? they are easy to remove if you get tired of the theme and don't cost a lot.
Q: Ok so my 17 year old SIL decided to clean the grout in our entry way using STRAIGHT bleach last night. I came home to find the ceramic tile COVERED in bleach!! Now, after mopping several times I still haven‘t been able to get all the bleach up AND our tiles are stripped!!! Any tips on getting the bleach up and then resealing? Total novice here and desperate for any kind of help!! Thanks!!
neutralize the bleach first and then soap and water till its gone, then you can reseal with materials from any hardware store. Use baking soda for the first process dissolved in water
Q: I‘m thinking about most economical way to up grade my living and master bedroom flooring.both had laminate and had flood slab leak due to underground water pipe damage. now the pluming has fixed and everything has been taken care of. the rest of the house already got white tiles throughout. I can go laminate in the living room and tile in the bedroom. both rooms are about 280 sq.ft. or I can do the need room laminate again. I don‘t know how to put the flooring, so I would Gabe to hire someone to do it. we have a Lowes home center where their contractor can come out and to the installation. they want $35 for an estimate. we also have a floor center just down the street from us. their material was little more expensive than the Lowes price but perhaps the installation may be cheaper... I‘m not sure. would tile thought the house including the bedroom better, cheaper than laminate in the bedroom? I know I would want laminate in the living room hopefully nothing gets wet.
Laminate as in hardwood laminate? Or tile laminate? We have had both. Hardwood laminate is wonderful, as long as you have no source of fluid sitting for long terms. We had a diabetic dog and the last months he was a live had accidents all the time. I would get home from work and then find a puddle of pee. Eventually it started to bubble underneath. We just replaced with real tile. Tile is extremely easy to care for. And really isn't hard to install. It's pretty cheap also.
Q: Flatness of the thickness of the wall and how the number of pounds
4 test weight The same size of the floor tiles, the greater the weight, the better the quality, which is a relatively simple and rugged and effective selection method. Good quality tiles (800mm * 800mm) a pack of three, not a regular exercise of adult men is difficult to move up alone. (I belong to the type of extreme lack of exercise, two Nobel 800mm * 800mm tiles I can not move a person) Weight reference: a 800mm * 800mm tile about 30 pounds to 40 pounds, a 600mm * 600mm tile about 12 pounds to 18 pounds, a 300mm * 300mm tile about 3 pounds to 5 pounds. 5 listen to the sound With a hard object (such as carrying the key) flick, the sound more crisp, the higher the degree of porcelain, the better the quality. You can also use the fingers to clamp the corner of the tile, so that the tiles hanging down, with the other hand flick the lower tiles, the more clear the sound, the better the quality. This method may be more virtual, we should listen to a few pieces of different price tiles in order to have the ability to accurately determine. 6 to see the water absorption In the back of the tiles, watching the water spread after the speed of water, in general, the slower the water, indicating that the greater the density of tiles, the better the quality. Tiles should not absorb water, if the tiles to absorb water, and from the front to see the water stains, that shows the quality is poor, do not buy. Wall is a certain degree of water absorption, it is difficult to use this method to test, but now the wall and floor tiles are basically supporting the sale of tiles qualified, wall is also no big problem. Poor quality of the tiles on the back of a larger water absorption Tested the Nobel and Dongpeng tiles, the back almost no water, and the water wipe, completely anhydrous marks.
Q: can I surface over my white tile flooring granet??
If they are vinyl tiles stuck to the subfloor and you put another substrate, such as 1/2 cement board, yes you can. If the vinyl tiles are over another type subfloor, such as luan, then no, the vinyl and its substrate must come up and then the proper subflooring put down over the subfloor, correctly and then tile. If its a self stick tile, over slab, it must come up. If its a glued down vinyl tile over slab and bonded well, there are proper ways to put ceramic over this. If your doing ceramic over ceramic, and the ceramic is down well and no signs of cracks or loose tiles, again there are proper ways of putting ceramic ( or granite) over ceramic. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and heck my qualifications there. GL
Q: I accidently kicked in one of the tiles near the knobs on the bottom front of the shower. the tile is caved in and loose so i took it out and noticed the blue board behind it. There is a blue board and 6 tiles on the board. the blue board is easily pushed back and has little support. the 6 tiles are loose too and if i press the tile, it will go back a little. I think the blue board provided little support for the tiles and the tile cave in would of happened eventually anyway. either that or it was completely my fault because i caved in one of the tiles which made all of the other tiles loose?? I think the blueboard had little support and it wasn‘t completely my fault. should i fight my landlord on this?i just met with her and sat through a lecture with her accusing me of everything, from having parties trashing the apartment to the slightly black grout near the tub so im kind of worked up over this.
If you hadn't kicked it then it would still be as it was you have no excuse you have to curb your temper you have to respect other peoples property
Q: Hi, I am thinking about placing vinyl wood planks over the existing ceramic tile in my house and I wanted to know if it‘s possible. The tile isn‘t completely level due to the grout and obviously not all the tiles are exactly the same height down to the millimeter. I wanted to know 1. Is it possible to install vinyl wood plank over ceramic tile, 2. If so how level the tile floor has to be, 3. How would I go about leveling the floor, with an underlayment or with some sort of mortar, 4. If I use an underlayment do I still need to use the mortar to level the tile?Thank you.
While its always best to remove the tile and start with a fresh base for a new sub floor for the vinyl tile. This can be done .. You need to go over the tile with whats called an embossing leveler.. This will allow the vinyl to not show the grout lines. The high spots can be knocked down or floated so its barely noticeable. . By the time you do all this and the chance that you don t get any uneven tile floated out, your better off taking every thing out and do it proper. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar.
