- Cracked tiles usually indicate loose tiles, if they are loose, the vinyl or lino will show the cracks and loose tile in no time at all. If the tiles happen to be tight, and the crack is caused by a structure failure some where then the tiles can be treated so you can lay sheet goods over them. - Q: hi i started a tile job yesterday. i was supposed to pull up the old linoleum tile and put new linoleum yile. the only problem was that the ols tile had been put over older tile without being pulled up. so i chipped away a little at a time and it just seemed like it took a long long time. i have blisters all over my right fingers and hand. i still have a big patch to finish tonight, and if anyone knows how to get this stuff up faster please let me know, thank you
- You can go to a rental store and get a machine that will take all that up for you. You walk behind it and the blades will rip up the remaining tile. It's big and bulky so you will need something to haul it home. This would save you more blisters but will cost you a little bit money. If it is old tile, then you need to be sure you're not working with asbestos. Hopefully you've had a sample tested.

- I recently tiled a room of approximately the same size. Not including the cost of the tile, it cost about $150.00. I used quick set, which costs about $40 per tub. One tub, if used properly, should be enough. If the floor on which you are installing the tile is not concrete, you should stronly consider using the backing board. This will help reduce the chances of the grout, and tile from cracking. If installed on a wooden (plywood) floor, the floor can flex, resulting in cracking of the tile and grout.

- Q: I just finished my bathroom but when i used the oil based kilz there was a little spray back that landed on the tile floor.
- Depending on the type of tile you might be able to use a sharp knife (exacto or paring knife) and gently remove the spots. If you have any kind of ceramic tile that would work (in my experience) except perhaps on the grouted areas. If you have grout and the Kilz is in/on the grout you might have to actually scrape some of the grout off and then reseal the grout. Good luck. It's laborious work but it should work. If you have linoleum tile I wouldn't do that because it might remove the finish. The next time you go to the paint dept. at the store ask them how to do it if you haven't solved the problem
- Q: I am currently removing old cork tiles from the floor of my house. They are stuck down to the cement and as I‘m chiselling them up I‘m being left with a lot of glue residue with fragments of the cork too. Any tips on easy removal of the old tiles, but more importantly removing the glue? We are replacing them with new ceramic floor tiles. I was thinking maybe a heat gun and a scraper to clean it up but Dad has suggested a grinder! Any experiences with fast and easy removal of residue? I‘ve still got a room of cork to remove so if there‘s a better way than hammer and chisel I‘d love to hear about it!
- Just start scrapping it all off and patch the drywall after with drywall compound....then sand and paint....easy job
