- Q:The tile is attached to sheetrock and I don‘t want to damage the sheetrock by ripping off the old tile.
- if the tiles and grout aren't cracked at all then you'd be fine to just tile over it.. just make sure the doors will still close etc :P
- Q:Do you fill up the grout all the way to the top or only upto inner edge? We filled it up to the inner edge, but now the grout and the tile edges are starting to collect dirt very easily and it is very hard to clean. We are thinking of regrouting all the way to the top so that it will be easier to clean. Is that the correct way to grout these tiles?
- Most all tiles ( there are exceptions) are always grouted flush to avoid a couple of things. One is the problem your having now and the other is to protect the edging of the tile.depending on just how much more you have to fill in, you make have to dig some grout out to get a proper bond.. - Q:I want to know how to make tile based map in java. Retro games used tiled maps (to ease programming and memory management) but those games were created in assembly language. I know basic java. - first of all, you need to build different densities of 2D tile arrays according to how much of the map will be in the viewport at any given time. For example, a map at neighborhood level will need a gazillion more tiles than a map at the county level. Then, you need a way of converting the geographic reference at the center of the viewport to the tile that is covered at that zoom level, and for finding the adjacent tiles as well. Then, you'll need to calculate what parts of which tiles you are using will need to be clipped and by how much. Build a canvas using this information. As the map moves, you'll need to add on more adjacent tiles, and discard others, update the clipping, etc.
- Q:The tiles are textured and it seems that the high spots are wearing and can not be cleaned. Is this caused by inexpensive tiles?Texturing? Will I have to replace the floor? What product should I use? Any information will be appreacated.
- Sounds like whoever installed the tile did not use floor tile, they are the same color top to bottom, throughout. The tile you now have sounds like wall tile and only has the coloration on the top of the tile. You have two possible solutions to this problem. Replace the tile, or a cheaper fix that will not be permanent, is to finish the floor with semigloss polyurethane which will also wear out. High gloss will be very slick when wet, but depending on the sheen of the current tile you may decide to use that instead. The polyurethane will slightly change the color of your floor, and should be considered when you make your decision.

- You can get supplies via some craft shops (ceramicist supplies) and some tile merchants. It is possible to obtain 'biscuit' that is unglazed tiles which you design and decorate with glazes and then fire. This is the difficult bit either you need your own kiln or access to one. The best idea might be to enrol on an adult course to learn the techniques, they can then organise supplies and the firing plus show you how it is done properly. Could be a lot of fun.
- Q:I want to rip up the old linoleum in my bathroom and install some tile. The previous owners laid the current layer of linoleum on top of the original linoleum. - Tile should go down first. However, if you want the tile to lay flush against the cupboards as opposed to being underneath the cupboards, then you should install the cupboards first. Just make sure you seal that edge between the cupboards and the tile. You need to lay backerboard down first because that will keep the floor from accidentally suffering water damage, which so often happens in a bathroom.
