Q: MyMy bathroom. which is about 75 square feet has a carpet and I want to change it to tile. The only utility is a toilet.How do I handle the toilet? If I use ceramic tile, does the toilet sit on the ceramic tile and does that cause a problem with breaking the tile?What do you recommend that is practical, easy to install, and still functional?
Yes you ll have to pull the stool up and depending on what you sub flooring is now will depend how you treat the stool and wax ring and flange later. There isn t a stock answer with the info you gave. Some times the flange is raised enough to accommodate raising the floor with tile and a 1/2 cement board( if needed). If the flooring is on a slab them the tile will go right up to the flange and stool set atop with a normal or extra thick ring. In 20+ years I ve never had a tile crack under a stool. As long as there is the correct amount of thin set under the tile and any subflooring you add is properly put down,it ll be fine. Stools don t have to be tight tight bolted down just firmly snugged up . Almost ( almost ) any tile will work in a bathroom situation , but get a slip resistant type, one with at least a class III rating is my recommendation Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. Q: Ok so our bathroom is old and crappy and the faucet in the shower always come off. I was taking a shower and when i went to put back the body wash it fell and must have landed on the faucet and the faucet came off and two tiles along with it. The tiles are broken into little pieces. My mom is gonna be mad but it wasn‘t even my fault im so scared =(
This must be wall tiles. Just tell mom what happen and then mom will know how it happen and get it fixed, They may have to remove few more tiles to fix this if same tiles are not available. It is time to fix the faucet too. Just do not let her find out on her own that it is broken. She may lecture you a little but that is the part of growing up(fault or no fault), but if you do not let her know then you will have more water damage and she will be more mad at you becase it will cost lots more to fix.
Q: would cover a 12 ft by 15 ft floor if you choose to use 10 in by 12 in tiles?
you need 216 tiles !
Q: Ok so my 17 year old SIL decided to clean the grout in our entry way using STRAIGHT bleach last night. I came home to find the ceramic tile COVERED in bleach!! Now, after mopping several times I still haven‘t been able to get all the bleach up AND our tiles are stripped!!! Any tips on getting the bleach up and then resealing? Total novice here and desperate for any kind of help!! Thanks!!
You must have very porous tile like unsealed porcelain or terra cotta. What you need to do is rinse it very well to make sure no bleach is left then seal the tiles. Home Depot has tile sealer (not grout sealer - but you should get that too and use it AFTER you seal the tile). First get a terra cotta sealer and apply that. When it repels water that's sprinkled on it you can proceed to seal the grout. Get some penetrating grout sealer (Tile Lab makes a good one that HD carries) and apply that. It's easy. You just wipe it on let it sit a few minutes then wipe off any that hasn't soaked in. Apply 2 or 3 times until it repels water and you're good to go.
Q: I want to put tiles down on my kitchen floor, but first I need to pull up the old pattern. It is a whole piece of laminate flooring that is starting to come undone where the dining room and kitchen meet. So how would I go about doing this? Do i just pull the laminate up? Is there a specific way to put the tiles down?
First okorder . Good luck.
Q: What is better tiles or carpet in a living room considering I have 3 kids ( 4 , 3 and 2 ) ? what about the kitchen?
Carpet is better if they fall, but stains easily and shows wear. You can get carpet tiles for the kitchen, that way if there is a spill you only have to pull it up and replace that one.
Q: I need to know if flexbond is the best stuff to use for this type of job for a do it yourselfer. I have never worked with this stuff. I have only used regular thin set mortar in the past. Is it hard to work with?? And to lay the tiles this large do I have to butter the mortar on or can I just trowel it onto the plywood floor?Thanks, Fran
Flexbond has the same consistency as other thin sets. So it isn't any harder to work with. As far as applying it to the back of the tiles and the floor, I typically don't. If you have high or low spots in the sub floor, use an appropriate floating material to feather those spots out before you lay any tile. You can use something as simple as a 4' level and just lay it on the floor moving it in every direction to look for high/low spots. That is the only reason to apply it to the back side, to fill low spots. Use a 1/2 notched trowel to spread the flexbond. The key is to not make it too soupy when you mix it. If you do, the thin set tends to drop some, typical to air out of a balloon (if that makes sense to you). That will be what makes tiles not adhere fully. You can tell this by tapping on the tile the next day. You will here the hollow sound. If you have that scenario, remove that tile and reset it before grouting. Here's a tip to make the grouting easier. Keep a bucket of water and sponge with you as you lay the tile. Wipe the excess flexbond off the tiles and from the spots between the tiles where the grout will be. If the flexbond is down 1/4 from the top of the tile, that's fine.
Q: How do I clean the grout on my tiled floor. It has become quite discoloured over the last two years, especially in the kitchen. I live in a company apartment and it is very important that it is kept sparkling clean. There are very pale, large, limestone tiles throughout with matching grout. Thank you.
You have to be very careful because if you use a harsh product it will remove the seal and the grout will crumble.You may want to use a grout cleaner from Home Depot or some such place.You also may think about resealing it so it stays clean.
Q: Hi, I`m planning a bathroom remodel soon, and I want to use the same floor tiles as before - they are beautiful! But I just can`t find them anywhere (we bought this house recently and the previous owner did the remodel, and we can`t get hold of him any more). If anyone recognizes them, I`d be really grateful if you could point me in the direction of where to find them. Thank you SO much!Further info: the tiles are a fraction under 4 square and are a kind of gray-based quartz or granite (not sure of the difference, sorry!) with flecks of aquamarine and blue that give it an overall pale blue hue. They sit between plain white tiles with the corners shaped to accept the smaller blue squares.I`ve looked in Lowes, Home Depot, Amazon and online but so far no luck :( !
You will have to contact a company and request a catalog of their tiles that they manufacture. After a run of tiles are made the next run will not be the exact same to match. It's very possible that no manufacturing tile company is still making the tile. With the wear and glaze that the tile has it would be impossible to get a match. I suggest that you shop for tiles that will enhance and blend with what you have and you may even use hard wood and tile aquamarine color that will pull the color hue from your present tile. The hardwood and tiles are beautiful. Hope this helps. Interior Decorator. Jo Ann
Q: How to distinguish between good and bad tiles
Third, as long as the bottom of a more economical. Now I realize that in fact what paint is good. Hi or the master of the end of a light even in the eyes of my paint workers are not covered, take the initiative to brush the second time (the paint is my purchase, wages are fixed) after both the uniformity of color and wall The light fineness is quite different. I believe that the master in the United States or hi Canada in Canada should be publicity on both sides of the bottom. While the domestic publicity is to let the buyer feel that there is not the feeling of expensive only Bale. And the two paint is easy to wash the function is not how. My two friends are the decoration boss, their home is the most common use of the state forever forever. Blowing for two days without taste. 2, buy a wall paint must buy a small piece of light on the 1st color. After a large area of ??color will appear deep. 3, if there is later to fill out the wall, be sure to see whether the original wall and the same plane, I was to brush over the wall paint installed when the baseboard was found, knocked back;
