- Q: My husband and I are going to redo a very small, four by four, half bath over Thanksgiving weekend. I‘ve picked up bits and pieces of advice about installing the marble floor tiles I‘ve bought, but I want to make sure I have the right advice before starting this or buying anything:Tile must be sealed both before and after installing, and the best sealer is Sealers Choice Gold. This will seal both the tile and the grout. Preinstall sealing should be done after cutting, not before. Do the tile edges need to be sealed as well or only the tops?Only white modified thinset should be used (brand recommendations?)Non-sanded grout should be used, and 1/8 inch spacing is acceptable for 12x12 tiles.Tiles should be wrapped before cutting to avoid breakage? I‘ve never seen this recommended before, but I‘ve also never installed marble. Thanks so much!
- Marble tile floors have been around for centuries. Even today, in an age of much simpler and less expensive options, marble remains synonymous with elegance and class. Installing marble is more complicated than installing ceramic or other types of tiles because the marble can't be cut on a standard tile cutter, instead needing a wet saw. Also, since the tiles are straight-cut in their manufacture, the tile surfaces have to be completely even with one another.
- Q: would cover a 12 ft by 15 ft floor if you choose to use 10 in by 12 in tiles?
- Ency is of course correct but doesn't understand that this section is called Homework Help for a reason. This is not a quiz question where you are showing how smart you are by getting the correct answer. The asker needs to know how to calculate it. In that respect Ency's answer is as much use as a plastic teabag! Ok there are 12 inches in a foot. Therefore placing the 12 inch edge down the 12 foot side, means that 12 tiles are required to form each row. Then 15 feet converts to 15 * 12 = 180 inches. Therefore as the other edge of the tile is 10 inches, 180 / 10 = 18 columns Therefore you require 12 * 18 tiles = 216 Answer 216 tiles
- Q: Find the number of tiling a 2 * n rectangle with 1 * 2 and 2 * 2, given that the edges of the tiles are parallel to those of the rectangle.
- If you are tiling a 2 * n rectangle with 1 * 2 tiles, you would line up 1 tile along the end measuring 2, then, becasue the other dimension of the tile is 1, you would need n tiles For 2 * 2 tiles you would do the same thing except that each tile would cover 2 units of the side that is n units, so you would need n/2 tiles
- Q: Anybody know of any apps/programs that give the user the ability to make custom sized metro tiles, similar to the windows phone?
- abode windows 8 sucks and right here's why: -it does no longer make your computing gadget speedier...Microsoft basically says that as a thanks to get basic funds from basic minded people like you and they fail to people like me who really comprehend stuff about pcs, in truth abode windows 8 makes use of extra ability. operating platforms do no longer make your computing gadget magically speedier, its the cpu,ram and the motherboard extra usually than not. -it has no initiate botton -that is particularly a lot a pill operating gadget for use on a computing gadget/laptop. there is extra i'm leaving out yet considering the fact that i dont own a computing gadget with abode windows 8 i dont comprehend. and countless different the different those who spoke back saying dont pay interest on your clueless pal bla,bla,bla... you adult men are the clueless ones and all of us comprehend what's nice. and abode windows 8 isn't a progression, that is a degraded piece of **** OS. someone ought to step-in at Microsoft and regulate it.
- Q: I have old, crumbly tile as a subfloor in my apartment. I recently put in vinyl flooring when I took my carpeting out. It now looks as if this tile (wood-like vinyl planks) are taking the shape of the subfloor, which was not perfectly even. I don‘t like that I see shadows of peaks and valleys in the new flooring in certain light. It also doesn‘t feel even when I walk on it barefoot, but I‘m extremely particular.1. Should a coating have been applied to even-out the old tile BEFORE the vinyl flooing was installed? (the company didn‘t want to take these up as they felt it was asbestos. the worker who installed the new floor said the old floor did not need a coating)2. Was this vinyl tile installed correctly?3. If it wasn‘t installed correctly, could this affect the vinyl tile/planks over time -- could it warp, perhaps? 4. What do I do if it was installed incorrectly and the company does not do anything about it without a fee?? (There‘s a warantee on the floor IF it was installed correctly only)
- The new vinyl floor should only have been applied to a good, sound and stable substrate. If the tiles underneath were chipping, flaking, bubbling or falling apart there is no way the new flooring should have been applied. Most asbestos tile comes up easily and requires basic Personal Protective Equipment. Not like asbestos pipe installation...the nasty stuff. Another option is to remove the loose tile and fill with a latex floor patch...not the best option, but OK for most. A better option is a 1/4 plywood underlayment on top of the tile and under the new vinyl. You still need to remove lose or bad tile and level uneven areas, but the new plywood underlayment will give you a much more stable surface. You'll need to prime the plywood with a floor primer and also consider a new threshold to account for the elevation difference.
- Q: Any ideas on which model tile cutter is good? and any tips on how to cut around corners and diagnally?

- Q: we are constructing apartment....got a question about tile work..which is better, is it better to leave some gaps between tiles and is it better layout tiles with no gaps between them...the builder is suggesting the first option above...i prefer the second option...because with the first option, i feel there are chances of dirt getting clogged as time passess by...please advise
- The TYPE, size and style of tile determines the size of gap and the type of grout used. Sanded or unsanded. A general rule of thumb, and this is a general rule, 4x4 and most white (white not off white/tan) bodied tile takes almost no gap and tiles are self spacing and use an unsanded grout. Any thing larger and has a red/ tan /grayish or darker body takes a sanded grout and a space as small as 1/8 and no smaller and up to 1/2 grout size. Sealing all grout properly ( easy job) will help a lot in the staining of the grout. There is no choice , the proper gap and type of grout must be used or the grout can fail. Any questions you cane mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
- Q: I would appreciate a double check on this problem. I believe I‘ve saved myself a lot of cutting, but I just want to make sure. My shower is 59 inches wide. My tile is 4.25 inches wide and tall. (square)My spacers are .25 inches wide. The middle point of my shower 29.5 inches. If I move my center line to the right or left by 2 and 1/8 inches I should be able to cover the entire width with 13 tile IF I allow for a 1/8th inch addition in each corner. Is this correct?
- too much thinking . . but thanks for the 2 points . . .really . . you are being too analytical here . . let your tile installation crew do it for you . . tell them what you want . . . but if you are so fussy that all must be dead on perfect . . good luck . . because you may still need to float the walls . . and walls are usually not square and ceilings are oft crooked as well . . sometimes you just need to fudge a bit and follow the line that everyone will see.
