Q:is it better to rent a wet saw, or will a tile cutter be less expensive and less messy
Nothing like good old hand tools a good tile cutter is not expencive just be sure to buy a couple of extra cutting wheels, and a cutter that will cut your size of tile, Use the saw for your fancy cuts, Now you have most of the tools for a tile job , all your friends and family will be knocking @your door Have Fun
Q:we layed tile after hurricane katrina whats the protocal about if you should tile the whole house with the same color tile my 10 yr old wants different tile then we layed in the bedroom. Does this effect the value of your home or does it matter?
As long as you use neutral colors that flow well together it will not affect the resale value of your home. Now, if you put in a bright orange pattened tile it would negatively affect the value. FYI - Most people don't like tile throughout the WHOLE house. People tend to prefer hardwood or carpets in the bedrooms. If you're not going to be selling your house soon, I wouldn't worry about it.
Q:Currently the stairs are carpeted. I have heard that if this is not done properly the tiles will crack. How do I ensure that the stairs are level and stable enough for the tiles? Any guidance is greatly appreciated.
It can be done, but the trick is in using the proper setting materials and grout. For starters, you'll need an epoxy thinset. These are industrial grade-- not available at the local home center-- and can be difficult to trowel due to the fact that they set up quickly. You'll want to mix it in small doses so that you can set tile before it cures. Wear rubber gloves, too, as you'll hate to find out the hard way that you have an epoxy allergy. Plus, the stuff's super tacky and gets on but not off just about everything you'll touch. I'd recommend porcelain tiles, as they are stronger than most. But here's the rub: you want an abraded surface porcelain or you and yours will be slipping down to the next level of your home. Then, you definitely want to use at minimum an epoxy grout between your tiles. Allows for flexibility. Better yet, you should use a 100% silicone as grout. You can get these in colors-- they're not all clear. You'll be using that same silicone to create soft joints on the coves (where the riser meets the stairs-- vertical to horizontal), as well. The vertical risers move independently from the horizontal stairs, and a rigid, hard joint here will definitely cause cracking. The best thing you can do is stop by a local tile distributor. They sell primarily to the commercial trade, but most have showrooms and are open to the public. Ask the manager there about your application. If he can't help, he can call one of his suppliers (a guy like me) who can walk you through it.
Q:I will be doing my first tile job soon. I will be removing/replacing the tile on my kitchen countertop. I have got most everything figured out with the exception of removing the existing tile on the backsplash. I believe the tile was placed directly over sheet rock (tract home). Any suggestions on how to remove the tile without too much damage to the sheetrock. If I have to do sheetrock replacement I don‘t think I could ever duplicate the texture now applied to the surronding sheet rock Thanks for any tips.
Well you can use a hammer and a 1/2 chisel with safety glasses to start. As for sheetrock replacement...since it will be under the tile, the texture wont be seen and shouldnt be a problem. The coat that you will use to adhere the tile to the sheetrock will cover any inperfections caused by the tile removal. Are you talking about sheetrock or wonderboard?, sheetrock is also called drywall. If the base behind the tile is a hard ,cement based backing then just adhere the tile to that. I have never heard of anybody setting tile to sheetrock since it isnt waterproof. Good luck.
Q:how do you clean up ceramic tiles? they dont seem to shine but look very dull whenever i clean it with water and soap. is there a product i can use to clean them and at the same time leave them shining?
Most soaps leave a film on tiles I purchased a steam mop, just cleans the tires with steam and leaves no film or residue, they look like they did when they were first laid. See if you can borrow one from some one to give it a try. You will love it. Good Luck

Q:I need to repair my shower, about 6 tiles fell off. I‘m currently drying the drywall with a fan. Whats the best way to glue tile back on the wall?

Q:Ceramic tile a square with how much, how to buy ceramic tile, the price is how much
The price of ceramic tile by the brand, type, specifications, freight, local prices and the impact of wage levels, are generally concentrated in the 45-70 yuan between the specific you need to go to the local building materials market to ask and contrast. As for the amount of paste a square, the size of the tile directly by the size of the construction technology and the impact of the loss rate, under normal circumstances if the 600 * 600MM below the tiles, the general amount per square in about 3.5KG, greater than 600 * 600MM Then each square needs about 5KG. The above amount is in the case of the formation of the base surface, if the base is not flat recommended first mortar leveling, and then use the tile glue to paste.
Q:What is the tile material?

Q:For a while now I have just used paper towels as a substrate for my 2 leopard geckos and I recently have been researching slate tiles as a substrate and I want to give it a try due to the positive feedback i‘ve seen on message boards and care sheets. Now, I have 2 10 gallon tanks that I would like to use but details are lacking from an online source.1. What measurements should i ask for when getting a piece of slate cut(for a generic 10 gallon tank)?2. Is there a certain thickness the slate should be for proper heat disbursement?3. How warm should the slate be allowed to get if i‘m monitoring it with a thermometer? I know I could measure out the tank myself, but I was just curious if there was a size that fit better than what a measurement would give me. Thank you for the feedback.
I use slate tiles for my 3 geckos tanks. They work great. 1. A 10 gallon tank is generally 20in X 12in. Because not all the tiles are the same size I would go with cutting the tile slightly smaller to make sure they fit. So maybe 19 1/2 and 11 1/2. You will probably need 2 tiles for each tank so you could cut them anyway you want ( 10 and 10, 12 and 8, 6 and 6, etc. You can fill the gaps with sand later on. The 12 X12 tiles could be slightly smaller, slightly larger, or longer then they say. 2. No really, though you do want them to be fairly even in the tank. Most of my tiles are about 1/4 inch but I also have a layer of sand under the tiles so they are level even if the tiles are different thicknesses. 3. You want them to be warm but not too hot. Because leopard geckos use belly heat you'll want them about 88-90F. I would not let the tiles get over 95F though.
