- Not directly. There are products out there like Tavy Thinskin that say you can do this by applying the Tavy membrane first and then setting tile, but I've seen installations like this fail far too often. Plank floors move too much for an installation like this. They will inevitably crack the tile or the grout. If this is a plank subfloor then you are best to put down 1/4 durock concrete board before tiling. If it's less than about an inch thick, you should lay a sheet of exterior grade plywood and apply a Ditra membrane before laying tile. Concrete board adds no structural value so you need to make sure your subfloor is stiff enough to avoid flexing and causing cracks. If this is an actual finished hardwood floor, it really needs to be ripped out and proper subfloor for tile installed like I laid it out in the last section. There is another easier option but it can get expensive. There is a product out now that is basically a porcelain tile mounted on a plastic grid. You click the grid (and tile) together just like installing a laminate floor and then grout the joints with a flexible urethane gout. This allows the whole installation to float without any actual connection to the floor below. This newer system is greatly improved over the older systems where a tile was mounted on an actual laminate backer board. We had the opportunity to bring the product into our store, but we passed on it due to cost. I'd have to sell it for $8-$10 / SF. The grout isn't cheap either.

- I would suggest getting a good tile book at the book store or library and reading it. Despite what the first answerer says it is not quite easy. I have probably done 75 bathrooms and while it's not terribly difficult it does take some skill and some planning. Especially around corners and other transitions. As was suggested do not use drywall behind the tile in a shower. Study up and then make a decision. Good luck

- Having the tiles uneven on a new installation is not right. Couple reasons to cause this and should have been caught by the installer.They are more than likely not loose but since they are uneven, your more than likely to chip the edges over time. - With your tiles if you want to paint them darker then yes you can buy specific tile paint, which involves using a primer first then the paint, but to go lighter i think u may struggle as covering any dark colour and going lighter is tough. As for your cabinets, depends what they are made of, if the r solid wood a light sanding and primer should suffice, if they have laminate fronts(shiny) i wouldn't bother trying to paint them, just buy new fronts, its often as cheap as buying all the paints and primers etc!

- It will vary from any tile that is vitrified ...A vitrified tile is all in the body hardness and is more of a rating . Since it s based an water absorbtion and not a thickness.. You ll find many brands and styles of vitrified tile. These lean more towards your porcelains rather than the normal clay bodied tile. It s all in the making/ firing process than any thing else. - Also do not rush. Slow, slow, slow drill speed and minimal pressure. Having someone spray water while you drill also helps. Getting through the gloss layer is the hardest part as drill will want to slide. The tile bits you purchase at store will wear out after a few holes so keep fresh ones handy.
