- If your not overly familiar with doing tile a diagonal isn t the easiest to start on. Lay out and proper tools are a big help in your preplanning. Right size trowel and large enough wet saw and had cutter is a must. Get the longest straight site line and split the room in 1/2 with a chalk line. Lay tile back to the wall and figure the size of pc(pcs) you need. You can cut a few of these pcs as a starting point. Knowing you split the room you should be equal when you get to the other side. A perfect straight edge will help keep your lines straight. Use this on all sides as you build out from that wall and lay as though your doing a straight lay just that your on a 45 degree. Or if you are doing an open ended area , you can cut several tiles in 1/2 and work back. A bit trickier but overall look is better. Don t cut tiles directly in 1/2, you must cut just off center if this is a starting point. Very hard to do and takes experience. Also you will have to remove the grout around each broken one, and then crack the broken one into pieces, then remove clean the surface, apply adhesive, and then the tile, and then grout. The color of grout will never match up 100% and neither will the tile. Also it will take you a good part of the day. Good luck with your project!

The surface must be clean and dry w/ no oils or wax on them Dont use your plain latex thin set, get one that is stronger, price will help dictate it. - American Oleans Satin Glo ( matte finish) and Satin Brights bright , shiny ) line had some bright green tiles . Also Interceramic and Dal Tile had a line of them. At one time Florida Tile had some too. Google all these manufactures and look at their lines. Each site will have a store locator to find a realtor neatest you by putting in your zip code. - Q: The hammer took a chip out of one tile, the chip is about the size of a pencil eraser. I‘m just heartbroken as we just had this tile installed 12 days ago! - Got any tiles left over from the job? You can (carefully!) chip the old tile out in pieces with a hammer and a chisel, (VERY carefully!) chip out the grout between the broken tile and the ones next to it. and chip out the cement under the broken tile until you're down to the backer board. Once that's done, clean out all the chips, dust, etc, and chip out the cement that you missed. Clean again, check for still more cement (it's persistent stuff), until the area is clean. Set the spare tile down in the space to make sure it fits OK. It should set below the level of the other tiles. If not, you missed some cement. Go back to step B. Finally, you're ready. Mix some tile cement, dump a glop in the center of the cleared area, spread it around, and use a tile trowel if you have one to spread it and groove the cement. The grooves let you spread the cement and give it some extra area to fasten to the back of the tile. Put the tile in place, wiggle it around and move it until you like where it's sitting, wipe up any cement that oozed up around the sides, and don't walk on it for 2 days. Finally, mix up some grout, spread it into the seams, wipe it off the tiles around the seams, and don't walk on it for another day. Seal the seams, and carry your hammer carefully from now on.
