Q: We have a big garden, and we often have a few of the neighbours' cats wandering around in it at any one time. My kitten is 10 weeks old and he's had his shot for cat flu, but not for cat AIDS or leukaemia (gets those in a couple of weeks). Is he old enough to be introduced to the garden? And if so, would it be safer to wait until he's vaccinated against AIDS, or doesn't it matter- I can't see how a kitten could get AIDS, to be honest. The vet said there was a lot of cases in our area though. Also, my mum's worried that if we let him out in the garden, the older cats from the local neigbourhood might think he's invading their territory and attack him. Would they do that?I'd like him to be a mostly outdoor cat, as we have a lovely garden but a very small house (and he's trashing it :P) He's very strong and vivacious so I'm not worried about him being afraid of the grass or anything (like my dog is lol)Thanks for your help! :D
Feline Leukemia is highly contagious, always get vaccines before exposing kitten to the elements. Aids can be transfered in as little as a scratch from another cat, so I would definitely get kitten vaccinated before letting it out. I used to work for a veterinarian, and it is very important to shelter the little ones until they have what they need to keep from getting sick.
Q: My parents talked to this guy from Express Home Solutions that's based in Garden City, NY about help with modifying their home loan and such. They wanted me to research the company to make sure it wasn't any kind of scam set up before they did anything with them, but I can't find much. There seems to be another company with the same name out of Texas, but I don't know if they're the same people. Has anyone dealt with this company or heard anything about them? Any help would be great! Thanks.
I don't know anything about this company but when I Googled the name, the first site that comes up is Rip off report so I'd be leary. There are many scam companies out there right now who will take the money up front not do much for it. Your parents don't need to hire anyone to help modify their mortgage. It can be time-consuming because so many people are looking for modifications that the lenders are overwhelmed. Have your parents start here: makinghomeaffordable / You will see the warning right on the front page about these types of companies. Good luck to your folks.
Q: There is an ad in an older Better Homes and Garden and the other magazine that has a cake on the cover every month (I am drawing a blank on the name). The add has a womens ring on a cherry or a little red fruit and the mens rings on a walnut. If someone could tell me the designer of those rings or even if the ad states what style rings they are that would be great! It is driving me crazy, I saw it once and fell in love with the rings! The cake magazine that for sure has the ad inside has on the cover is a mint tart style dessert. Thank you so much!
My advice for you would be to go on their website and contact the magazine (Better Homes and Gardens). Ask about past issues of the magazine and see if the sales/customer service rep on the phone can help you figure out which issue it is. They'll have all the copyright information for photographs of products featured in the magazine and once you pinpoint which issue the ad is featured in, they'll be able to give you the product name. You might be amazed how willing they are to help you find the info you're looking for. I've had to do this with other various information I was looking for in the past. Your best bet would be to go right to the source.
Q: Have a new house with many plantings front and back yard. Communication with previous owner has been difficult. I would love to find a volunteer who would walk through the garden areas with me to name and label the various species there. I want to weed, but love wildflowers and such, and don't want to take out something of interest. I know I can go to my local university with plant leaves for help with identification, but with so many, it would be a long and tedious process.By the way, my geographic location is northeastern Connecticut. thank you.
call yourCounty Extension office and see if any of the Master Gardeners there would like to come over and give you a hand with this.... I know there's several at ours who would be happy to help... have some tea handy!....
Q: I'm looking to make an easy to maintain container garden using a large Roman-esque pot. I'm looking for some design ideas that include height in the center with a mound and edging flora. Plant choices that include color and/or fragrance would be excellent as well. This container will sit in a semi-shaded area on the front porch in Southern California.
Wow, because you live in So Cal, you have LOTS of choices. A shady location may limit the fragrance plants that will grow well. However, since I can't see exactly what your POT looks like, it is hard to say! Here is what I would suggest: Take your pot to your local plant nursery and have them help you pick out some plants. You can always go to another nursery if you don't like the choices!! Good Luck!!
Q: I want my rabbit to have enough room to grow in as well as have a good enough area to play with her toys.Shes a dutch rabbit and Right now shes lives in a doggie kennel like the one below.
You're okorder /... But even then it's a bit small, a rabbit should be able to do three full hops minimum in at least one direction - for a rabbit as athletic as a Dutch, that's something at least 6-7 feet long!
Q: I have a small home garden. I planted some purple passion spinach. Its growing beautifully, and I have three plants. The problem is there are these little green caterpillars that are eating it all! I noticed it on a fee leaves a while ago but didn't mind a leaf here or there. But they are eating it all now. Today, I harvested leaves from the plants and I had to throw hlalf of them away!!! I picked all of the big leaves and removed all of the caterpillars (its growing in a container) and killed them, some I threw away with the leaves. What do I do? I really don't want to put a pesticide on my food. Is there an organic or home remedy I can use?? Also, they are not eating any of my other plants.
You could always introduce a predatory pest into your garden, such as lizards, frogs or wasps. That will control the caterpillar population for sure. Bacillus thuringiensis (BT) can be used for controlling caterpillars. It’s probably the number one way of getting rid of caterpillars. It’s a bacteria that infects and kills caterpillars by destroying the lining of the guts. It is effective only on caterpillars and will not harm anything else. Just spray on foliage and let them eat it. Be sure to buy BTK (the “K” stands for kurstaki).
Q: I need to buy a bike organizer that hangs from the ceiling of the garage and don't want to pay full price. I've searched online without luck. Any assistance you can provide will be greatly appreciated. :-)

Q: Which pillows will look best w/ blue sofa?
I like the second choice. There is a 'pop' of blue with lots of neutral around it and that would be my choice. It also, though, would have been helpful to know what type of room the couch is in--if the couch is solid blue, what curtains, carpet etc., is, but again, based on your question and the choices--mine is the garden/con
