Q: i check the diodes in the backside of solar panels it reads out to be 0.433 each give me the same result but i was amazed when i check out the last two one which on clamp meter screen give me ''0L'' what this means? is that diode have malfunctions??is this reasons that the output of solar has been decreased?: First of all, make sure that you are taking readings in the dark (with the solar panel indoors and covered). 0.433 is a reasonable forward voltage for a Schottky diode. Ideally, it diode should read open one way (possibly OL for your meter), and 0.4 the other way. If it's reading OL both ways, the diode is bad. You can either unsolder it or cut it out and verify that it is bad.

Q: I am looking to get some solar panels for my home to just power a few lights, a fan or two. I have a generator but I want that only to power the fridge and maybe some other small stuff for convenience.But mainly want the solar panels for the lights and fans. Should I call a contractor or anything?: depends on what light bulbs you have in watts.depends on how many you want on. for the power equation you take P which equals watts x I which equals amps and E which equals volts and you multiply the amps and the volts together to get the watts which the solar panel is generating. for example if you had 7 60 watt light bulbs you would need 420 watts generated. which if you got 50 watt panels each you would need 9 panels. and for what your talking about if you want the stuff to work when the power goes out you are going to need an inverter. not to be confused with a grid ti inverter. and a few batteries i recommend deep cycle batteries that are meant for solar panels. depends on what fan you have.

Q: I've been figuring ways to keep water thawed out this winter, and this bucket seems to be the easiest thing. What kind of set up (solar panel) would I need to feed this 260 watt heated bucket?: Unfortunately solar panels are low output,generally only 2 volt and very low amperage,so you would need to build a multi panel array with a DC-AC converter all together costing several hundred dollars which would only work during sunlight.Just roughly figuring,about $800. Plan2-Solar charger,battery bank,and DC-AC inverter so it would work 24hrs a day,also several hundred $$. Solar power does just not seem feasible(to me)in this application.By far the cheapest set up here would be an extension cord fromhouse to the bucket.260 watts per hr is a fairly lightweight draw,even not figuring the thermostat's cycling it on and off as needed.Electricity is sold in kilowatt hours(000W/hr).This bucket would use(not allowing for thermostats control lowering it)appx 6000watts or 6KW per day.Depending on your electrical cost per Kwh it would cost very little to run.(In my location appx 50cents a day) or appx the same amount as my computer(325watts total)) Note that that would be a maximum rate,and would actually be less due to thermostat cycling off and on as needed.

Are you talking about solar cells or panels ? Solar panels can be either for hot water or electricity but i take it your talking about solar cells that make electricity . Heat has nothing to do with making electricity . In fact when they heat up they give out less so its good to keep them cool . With size they give out equal amounts of volts but less amp the larger the more amp you get. Solar cells work with white light that knock the electrons around that produce electricity . To much such as putting a magnifying glass on them will burn them up but will kick out twice the volt but only for a short amount of time before they burn up . If you can keep them cool with an intense light like that im not sure what they will do but to much heat will destroy them. Edit: Yep you got that right . As far as the desert to make up for the loss of volts because of the heat they just add a few more cells . Say there going for 2 volt it takes 24 cells because each gives you /2 volt but most use around 36 cells if not more . That would give you 8 volt then a regulator regulates the amount going into the battery . Most will put 3 volt into the battery to 4 volt . Freezing temps aren't going to do a thing to them as long as the sun hits them without snow covering them . I build mine with 40 cells getting 20 volt and a bit more on some . That way if its a cloudy day i still get over 3 volt and plenty of amps .

You need to keep in mind that as long as you are renting your electric from the public utility you are doing just that and renting. You can resale the solar electric system if you move or if you just want to sale it and get some of your money back if not 20 % extra. Then all the years you used the system was all free electric. So it is already viable as you put it. Anything other then buying a system would not be. Here is a thought. The housing market slumped and if you paid 50K for your home it is now only worth if you can even sale it about 00K. Not worth the money but people are still buying homes even if they are not worth what they are being sold for. And then the cars and trucks people buy will never pay for them selfs but people still buy them and spend extra the more wasteful the car is. So why does solar have to pay for it's self or prove it's self? It has many times over but because you can't drive a solar panel drunk and party out in the bars with it is is not worth the money. I guess the is just being human and a double standard. What about the big up front cost of solar? I remember a 20% up front cost when I bought my home and my car and it is the same 20% or less for a solar loan. Plus the value of solar is going up not down like with homes and a car is not worth but half what you paid for it the minute you drive it off the car lot. I can only see good from solar un like other things we buy.
