- Q: When my son comes is it safer for him to sleep with me and my husband in our bed or in his bed?
- I know there are a bunch of people out there that think co-sleeping is the best. I am n ot one of them. I think everyone gets better sleep when they are in their own space. We had my son in his pack-n-play right next to our bed for the first 6-8 weeks (until he started going for a longer stretch without nursing), then we gradually transitioned him to his own crib for naps and night. If you co-sleep, you may end up with a 3 year old who will not go ot bed unless you lay down next to them. I think it just leads to one more thing you have to wean them from. Also, cosleeping doesn't teach the child how to fall asleep on their own, and since the baby is right there, the parents may be to quick to assume they are waking up due to hunger when really they are just shifting sleep phases and would have fallen back asleep in a minute or two on their own. I say, keep him in your room at first (in a bassinet) for piece of mind and convenience but move him into his own crib as soon as you feel conmpfortable.

- WHOA!! 9 is way to late. When I was that age, I went to bed at 8-8:30. Kids should be getting at the very least 9 hours of sleep a night. If you're putting your kids to bed at 9 NOW, then what's going to happen at parties? when you go to dinner? Or what happens when your child turns 6 and wants to stay up LATER? There goes your life! Children need sleep. 8:00 is a good time.

- Q: The first time we did it she didn't like it, but my husband made a make shift bed rail and I think that scared her. We found a bed rail at a yard sale, but now I am wonder if we should just move her on to her full bed. Instead of the toddler bed. My husband thinks it is ridiculous to move her to the full size bed and she should go to a toddler bed. Which do you think would work better? - We bought our daughter a toddler bed when she was 18 months old. She slept in it but before she was 2 we bought her a pretty full sized bed. She loved that bed. Our second daughter would not sleep in her toddler bed.. So we bought a bunk bed with a full size bottom. Now our 5 year old and 3 year old sleep together on the bottom bed. If you are worried about her falling out of the full size bed, put pillows on both sides of her. You can also put pillows on the floor just in case... That helped with our daughters. Although, they didn't fall out of bed but a handfull of times. Our first daughter did the falling! Using a toddler bed is your choice...Toddler beds are like everything else....they are there to use but you don't have to use them! I just found them to be an added expense. If you want, try out the toddler bed for a little while. If she seems okay with it use it till you are comfortable enough to use the full size. If you are having problems, try the full size. You can pile the bottom area with all of her favorite stuffed animals for security!
