- i've had beds from all four of those places and the best thing i ever did was go buy one of those foam mattress tops for a human bed. once my 'orthopedic' dog beds broke down i simply opened them up and re-stuffed them with the foam and it made a sturdier bed that was so much better on the joints. and they lasted about 2 years before i had to replace the insert i made. it's a cheaper and better quality alternative.

- The John Freida Frizz Ease Serum is better for taming frizz than the bed head control freak. Although the control freak gives you better hold.

- No bed is the most comfortable for everybody. To find the one that's right for you, go to a good bed shop (not a bargain one) and lie down on lots of them. Some will be too firm, some will be too soft and hopefully one will be just right. The more you spend usually the more comfortable it is and the longer it will last. Never buy a bed without lying on it for at least several minutes, with a good pillow. A good bed shop will expect you to do this. General advice is to change your bed every ten years but we had a really good pocket sprung one that lasted for 30!!! (And no it didn't smell, and yes it was still clean)

- Platform beds don't necessarily have to have a futon-type mattress--and if you do use one, they're likely to be rather hard. Also futon mattresses generally have a shorter lifespan than a regular mattress--they tend to compact quickly. You can use a regular mattress with a platform bed, and if so, the bed should be as comfortable as a regular bed with a box spring, although the appearance would not be quite as low and sleek as a bed would with the futon-style mattress.
