- Q: if my electrical equipment has a fuse; does that not mean it's protected?is it just the power grid that goes down?
- The solar flare distorts the earths magnetic field. The basis all power generation is motion of a conductor through a magnetic field. So when the flare distorts the earth's magnetic field all the cables that form the electricity supply grid act as conductors in the earths distorting field. This induces currents that can lead to voltage spikes damaging equipment. The earths field is so big and ubiquitous and the distortion so rapid that often the surges as so sudden and huge that damage is done before systems designed to protect the grid can operate.
- Q: I'm 14 and I go to a technical highschool, I'm in hvac because I missed electrical by 1 person, if I get the chance should I switch to electrical? I already have my tools and uniform.
- What interests you the most? There is employment in both fields, and both pay good. You'll have to be a journeyman, no matter what before you get a master's license. I would frankly stick with HVAC because you will learn electrical stuff as you go along. I worked as a technician on food service equipment and vending machines for 20 years. There are a LOT of HVAC technicians and refrigeration technicians who also hold electrical licenses, but very few electricians who have licenses in any other area than electrical.
- Q: Electrical system in a residential building. When we use any equipment on one phase the lights on that phase dim down but and the same time the lights on the second phase become brighter.
- Someone has split the two phase into two one-phase circuits. Putting a load on one side lowers the voltage potential, which raises it on the other side. This is completely normal.
- Q: 1) Hands when handling electrical equipment. 3 letters, 2nd is r2) Work areas must have 9 letters, 2nd is o, 9th is r3) Treat all chemicals in the lab as 9 letters, 2nd is a, 4th is g, 6th is r, 9th is s4) Ties8 letters, 1st is t, 2nd is i, 3rd is e, 7th is i.
- 3). Dangerous 4). Tiestring (but 9 letters not 8)
- Q: I'm about to take an automotive electronics class at college but I'm just curious, what are the basics? Say I want to wire a police scanner or some type of lightbar into my car's electrical system. What would this entail? I'd have to pull away body panels, run wire, and hook it into the battery? What about fuses, safeties, etc And also how could I hook my police scanner into my speaker's system?
- Fuse blocks in cars often have SPARE (usually disused in some particular model) positions with wires already attached and within the wiring loom, with nothing connected to the end. Knowing what the intended accessory was, might allow you to connect something to its unconnected end, and always, the negative return is the car's frame. The circuit must be capable of carrying the current required. Some of these spares may be connected via the ignition switch, some may not. The next alternative is to run a new wire with a fuse inline, at the supply end at least. It is good practice to fuse the supply end, then have a further fuse at the accessory end (most accessories will already have this). The wire can often be run along and fixed to the existing car looms, passing through the firewall where the loom passes through. Again, negative is anywhere convenient on the car's metal frame. A quick and simple connection is the cigarette lighter, if fitted. Just procure a plug to replace the lighter. It can supply a fair current. So far as connecting a scanner to the existing speakers, I suggest you don't try to, unless the audio/ radio system has an accessory input. Maybe a bluetooth connection might be used, but really, the scanner's own speaker should supply the scanner sound. You can also connect accessories by splicing into existing car circuits, but I would suggest you do your college course first! You really need to understand current and wire sizes and fusing (not to mention basic circuitry!), before splicing into existing wires.
- Q: I have heard that an electrical ark can kill you so I would like to know what circumstances creares this condition.
- Don't know what an electrical 'ark' isbut and electrical 'arc' refers to the charge jumping from the anode to the cathode thru a medium such as air. Lightening is a electrical arcas is the sparks seen on Tesla Coils and other hi voltage devices.
- Q: I have a piece of electrical equipment that uses a 12v DC in that i want to replace with a battery, as it currently uses a wall charger with an AC converter. How would i go about doing this for cheap? making it myself wouldn't be out of the question, all i need is a guide. The 12v pack must also be as small as possible, as it is powering a portable device.
- You want to replace a battery charger with a battery? Makes no sense. 12V is quite a voltage - you need 8 1.5V batteries, or a 9V and 2 1.5V batteries, but that only take scares of voltage. You also need POWER (amps). Say you power 20 W of speakers, that requires about 1.6 A - not a trivial current for common batteries. Think car battery (which is not very portable )
- Q: I have a good friend that is EE and he says that it is a true aircraft electrician job, he states that integrated avionics is more of a pick n pull LRU job and anytime a wire harness, connector, or repair needs to be dealt with the EE guys come out. I am trying to decide on an AFSC, I want to do troubleshooting, flight line repairs, and by repairs I mean thought intensive repairsnot just pull and replace the box lol. I can't get a good description from the recruiter and obviously my friend is biased. Whats your input?? Thanks in advance!
- Electrical works on generators, light bulbs and such, Avionics is an electronics technician. You would work on communications, navigation, control systems for armament and such. If you are in an operating squadron you will pull black boxes. Fixing them is at a different level. If you want excellent electronics training and a chance to repair the black boxes on a repair bench, go Navy or Marines. They repair equipment to a higher level.
- Q: I am planning to buy a big guitar amp from america and you dont want to mess around with something as powerful as that so i want to know is there suitable adapters out there for such a job? because i heard that some electrical equipment from America will eventually burn out if you use it in Ireland!!help!?!?!
- As long as you get a proper adapter that can handle the load, you should be fine
- Q: If an electrical equipment is designed for 220V at 60Hz, can it be used in a country which uses an electrical system of 240V at 50Hz. I'm not sure how true is this, but I've heard that the voltage would not be a problem but if the frequency is less, electrical equipments with motors will not be able to run at 100% performance which means the efficiency drops. Please enlighten me~Thank you
