Q: I got a beautiful new oak rocking chair as a gift and would like to make a chair pad for it. I have a sewing machine and have some beginner sewing skills. Any simple patterns or ideas would be greatly appriciated.: You need to cut 2 pieces of fabric. Cut them the shape of your chairs seat, only make them about 4 inches wider/bigger all the way around. You can use a sheet of newspaper to make your pattern. Then turn the fabric right sides together and stitch~start at the back of it, but leave about a 3 gap in the center,sew from that point around the side, the front and the other side until you get back to your gap. Then just stuff it with some poly-stuffing, and hand stitch the gap/opening closed. You can also make you a couple of strips to tie it onto your chair if needed, or buy some heavy duty matching ribbon or trim. If you don't want to make one, you can always buy a ready-made chair pad too:) Just a tip....by the time you buy your fabric, thread, filling, etc..it's just about cheaper to buy one:) Unless you already have your materials;) Good Luck!!

Thanks!: a fail proof way to get an idea of how much fabric you will need: Take a tablecloth and drape it over the chair. This will give you a feeling of how much fabric you will need. If the tablecloth is too big, buy less fabric than the table cloth measurements and vice versa. I realize this is not a professional way to measure, but for the layman, it is a great way to get the spacial measurement needed.

Q: I live in a large apartment complex which has large private pool for residents. Most of the people in the pool are kids. There is always one lifeguard on duty. There is a 6 foot high lifeguard chair, but the lifeguards all refuse to use it even though it is in excellent condition and allows them to see all corners of the pool from high up. The lifeguards sit on a lawn chair next to the side of the pool, about 7 feet from the pool. When the pool is full of rambunctious kids, it is impossible for the lifeguard to see all the kids from that angle.Can someone give me an official definition of the purpose of an elevated lifeguard chair so that I can file a formal complaint and have this matter dealt with so the kids are safe. Q: i have an eames lounge chair how do I find the year and authenticity of it?: To find age, check each wood veneer, some models have a manufactured date stamped. If wood veneer is made of Rosewood, then it is definitely made before 1981. Other than that, its hard to find exact date of creation. the best is to ask Herman Miller. To find authenticity, check the bottom of chair and ottoman. If it is an original Herman Miller lounge chair, it should have a metal circle plate with H logo at the center with 'Designed by Charles Eames' around it. It also should have a patent sticker. Some of later models have a black rectangle shape sticker says 'herman miller'. The current model have a silver sticker with 'herman miller' on it.

Q: Which do you prefer? This would be for a dining set in cast aluminum that looks like wrought iron and would be used on a wooden deck (not a patio). I like the look of dining chairs (i.e., with legs) because I prefer a traditional style with my old house, but I'm wondering if swivel chairs would be more comfortable and practical on a deck (no legs to get caught in the cracks). Opinions?: Swivel, because it allows the user to position themselves in any direction with little effort (i.e., out of the sun, in the sun, to watch a volleyball match, to watch the kiddies swim, etc.)
