- Q: When wiring my subs from a positive to negative coil, do I use positive or negative speaker wire?
- Speaker wire is speaker wire. There's no difference between positive and negative wire except the markings on the jacket. If you're talking about the bridge wire when wiring a dual voice coil subwoofer in series, just use any piece of wire that's the same gauge as the wires between the other subwoofer terminals and the box terminals.
- Q: I wired an outdoor lamp-post. I tested it before wiring it to the fuse box...and if I touch the lamp-post I feel the current (a slight shock). I will be using a ground fault breaker....so I assume if I wire it to that I am going to loose the connection. Any thoughts on what is wrong?
- In addition to the answer Paul gave, check the wiring that the white wire is the neutral or common wire and that it goes to the shell side of the lamp holder. A few years ago, I had a similar problem, when all of the checks were made, the panel was wired with the black wires on the neutral buss. Hence all of the devices were wired backwards. Call a qualified professional electrician to do the work.
- Q: I am replacing an electrical outlet that currently has 3 white and 3 black wires plus the ground wire. The bad outlet has 3 holes already in it for each of the wires but my new outlet does not, there are only 2 holes and/or the 2 screw on each side. How do I install this new outlet? Do I need to do the pigtail here?
- The question needs clarification. Sorry from what I understand now you have a so called plug.We pros call it a duplex receptacle. Real pros don't like to push in wires into the spring holes. We use so called wire nuts (marrets). ,Make a joint with 2 of the 3 black wires and make a so called pigtail 1 piece of wire about 5 .and screw it onto 1 of the 2 screws.(The darker one of the 2 screws) The remaining 3 rd black wire screw directly onto the other dark screw. Do the same with the white wires.and wire them onto the lighter screws. To check if you did it right look at the front part of the plug. The newer plugs have 3 openings where you plug things in. 1 slit opening for the Hot wire.It is the smaller one.1 slit the larger one for the neutral. and the round one for the ground. If you really want to do it like a pro make sure the rounded hole is at the bottom . I hope this helps.
- Q: i changed the sprak plugs wires on my 1990 300e and when i put the car on Drive it vibrates strongly. i kept checking that each wire is in the right place and on. do i need to restart the brain or reprogram the car ?
- Sounds like you still have a wire crossed somewhere. Just for the future Change one wire at a time. Hope this helps good luck!
- Q: hey could anyone tell me from the stock am radio in my nissan 720 what wires are the constant (memory) power and the accessory (ignition) wire so i can attach these to my new radio
- there is no reason to cut any wiring to install any aftermarket head unit.go to wall mart to the car audio area and give them the yr make and model of your ride and they will sell you the right plug in for your type car.this wires to your new head units wiring harness and plugs into the plugs you took your factory radio out of.they call it plug and play and it comes with a wiring diagram for your type car so follow it. its color coded. if you did cut off the plugs your best bet is to put them back.this part is about 9 dollars.
- Q: i want to install a new light in a old house.the problem is that there are three black wires coming out of he ceilng.the old light fixture has two black wires. two ceiling wires are connected to one fixture wire and the other ceiling wire i connected to he other fixture wire.i dont know which is the hot wire and which is the comon wire.also the new light has a ground wire ,2 blue wires and 2 white wires but, there is no ground wire coming out of the box. please help
- a wire is a wire is a wire! the coatings were only put on to keep the continuity in sync. if you have all these blk wires, 2 go into 1 and connected to the lite and the other is connected to the lite, and there is no gnd wire. the 2 are running thru to another lite along the way as they did in those days. don't disconnect them, keep them together and call that your power/red or blk, the single coming down to the lite is the common/white...get tape and mark them so. electrical tape comes in colors. now you won't have that prob in the future. as for the gnd, you should have a metal box, just screw to that. at last resort if you have an attic, run a grn/gnd wire from a water pipe of someplace that will ground and wire nut it off. any Q shoot me an email...
- Q: me and my friend were doing a circuit challenge and we did the same circuit but she used thicker wires. does it make a difference?
- It depends on what the resistance of the rest of the circuit was. The resistance of relatively short lengths of really thin wire would be less than 2 ohms, probably less than 1 ohm. Thicker wire would be maybe 1/4 ohm. So only if the circuit's components were in the neighborhood of 25 ohms or less, would the difference in thin and thick wires have a real significant affect on the circuit.
- Q: i need an egr wiring Diagram for a 2000 Chevy Malibu. the wires got pulled out of the weather tight connector. if anyone can help i'd appreciate
- Connector view for the GM linear EGR valve are as follows: Pin# A=gray/w black wire,Pin# B=solid black wire,Pin# C=brown/w white wire,Pin# D=brown/w white wire(see note) and Pin# E=solid red wire! NOTE since pin C+D have the same color wire the correct wire must be identified by checking the voltage with the KOEO (key on engine off) the right brown/w white wire should have a 5volt reference voltage with the key on engine off! Hope this helps.
- Q: How do I find the remote wire on the back of my stock Ford Focus strereo? I have a line output converter to connect the rca cables to the deck, but I cannot tell wich wire is the remote wire. How can I track this wire down to connect it to the amp?
- usually stock decks wont have a remote wire for an aftermarket amp but if you have a power antenna you can use the same wire that turns that on
- Q: i have an amp (sony xm 2002gtr) that says it requires 4 gauge wire..but they cost $100+ and i have plenty of 8 gauge wires. can i use two 8 gauge wires as a substitute for one 4 gauge wire?and also, i have my capacitor grounded to unpainted metal of my car AND the ground port of my amp..is that incorrect?
- Two 8-gauge wires combined are equal to a 5-gauge wire, but that should be close enough for that amp. Make sure each wire has its own fuse near the battery; 40-amp fuses would be a good choice. If you capacitor is connected to ground, and your amp is grounded, then you don't really need a wire between the capacitor's ground terminal and the amp's ground terminal. It doesn't hurt anything, though. If the only ground wire at the amp is the one that runs to the capacitor, then you're better off connecting the amp ground directly to chassis metal.
