- Q: What are they worth today? As well as a 1943 steel nickel?
- The 1943 zinc coated steel cent is very common in circulated grades. They were saved by a lot of people because they are a one year type coin. I can buy them for .02 to .10 each depending on grade. Uncirculated ones are worth more, a few dollars. There is no such thing as a 1943 steel nickel. The nickel that year were made of 56% copper,35% silver and 9% manganese. The 1943 nickel sells for around a $1 in very fine to $2 in extra fine. It is worth more in high grade mint state.
- Q: What we have to keep in mind before buying a steel building?
- A steel storage garage?? Proper ground preparation---steady level ground--and lots of friends to help erect it.
- Q: What is stainless steel coil used for?
- Stainless steel coil is commonly used in various industries for manufacturing a wide range of products such as appliances, automotive parts, cookware, construction materials, and even surgical instruments. Its corrosion-resistant properties and durability make it an ideal material for these applications.
- Q: I'm doing a project on stainless steel dining utensils and its a little more difficult than i thought it would be. There are no sites on the web that tells the creator or when it was first used. There's no sites that that i can see of that talk about the history of stainless steel dining utensils, only dining utensils in general. Please help, i can't change my project now ):
- The booklet 100 years of WMF (WMF: Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik / Wurttemberg Metal Ware Factory) includes the patent application (or better: trade mark application) for stainless Cromargan Steel for the production of cutlery in 1926. Cromargan was the company's fantasy name for stainless Krupp V2A steel. Page 86 (unfortunately WMF is a German company, the booklet therefore is in German). Has nice pictures anyways. Appendix: I found the text (a bit cut however) in English language (without images and booklet, just HTML). See below.
- Q: It seems that steel would be stonger and more stable than wood, fire resistant, and better for the environment, so why are most homes wood-framed rather than steel-framed?
- Basically, it's because wood was available first and wood is still the cheaper, more widely available material. Way back when man started building dwellings similar to what we have now, steel was not an option for the masses. The process probably hadn't even been invented or perfected yet, there was not the widespread transportation of goods that we have today either. Early shelters were not even put together with nails, they use wooden pegs because metal was so expensive and not widely available. I can't say that it would be better for the environment; it takes a tremendous amount of electricity to smelt and produce metals. And you have the emissions problems from the factories and the power generation. I'd have to do more research on that one. A managed timber stand actually reduces greenhouse gasses and every scrap of that tree can be used in one form or another. The only energy expenditures are moving the trees to the saw mill, cutting at the saw mill and transportation of the goods after that point. And that would be a lot less than the power required to make the same number of feet of steel products.
- Q: What are the main characteristics of steel coils?
- The main characteristics of steel coils include their high strength and durability, excellent corrosion resistance, and ability to be easily formed and shaped. They are typically made from carbon steel and come in various widths, thicknesses, and lengths. Steel coils are commonly used in a wide range of industries such as construction, automotive, and manufacturing for applications such as roofing, structural components, and electrical appliances.
- Q: How are steel coils straightened?
- Steel coils are straightened using a process called leveling, which involves passing the coil through a series of rollers that apply pressure to gradually remove any bends or deformations in the steel.
- Q: I am searching for an online article which discusses any aspect of the use of austenitic stainless steels. I was just wondering if anyone could help me find one. No sales articles. Thank you!
- *Austenitic, okorder
- Q: How are steel coils processed for galvanizing or coating?
- Steel coils are processed for galvanizing or coating through a series of steps. First, the coils are cleaned to remove any dirt, grease, or other contaminants. Then, they are dipped into a bath of molten zinc or coated with a protective layer using various methods such as electroplating or hot-dip coating. After the coating process, the coils may undergo further treatments like drying, cooling, and leveling to ensure uniformity and quality.
- Q: What are the common surface treatments for galvanized steel coils?
- The common surface treatments for galvanized steel coils include passivation, chromate coating, and oiling. Passivation is a process where a thin layer of protective material, such as zinc phosphate or chromate, is applied onto the galvanized steel surface. This layer helps to enhance the corrosion resistance of the steel by providing a barrier against moisture and atmospheric elements. Passivation also improves the adhesion of subsequent coatings or paints that may be applied to the steel. Chromate coating, also known as chromating or chromate conversion coating, involves the application of a thin layer of chromate onto the galvanized steel surface. This coating provides an additional layer of protection against corrosion and improves the appearance of the steel. Chromate coatings can be clear or colored, depending on the desired aesthetic. Oiling is another common surface treatment for galvanized steel coils. This involves the application of a thin layer of oil onto the surface of the steel, which helps to prevent the formation of rust and corrosion during storage and transportation. Oiling also provides temporary protection against moisture and other environmental factors until the steel is further processed or used in its final application. These surface treatments are commonly used to enhance the performance, durability, and appearance of galvanized steel coils, ensuring that they can withstand harsh conditions and maintain their quality over time.
