- Q: I have hot water radiant heat in a concrete slab that leaks occasionally so I can‘t put carpet on it. Do I dare put ceramic tile over it? Maybe the tile would keep the moisture down.
- If you are positive it is leaking do not put anything over it. Fix the leak. It is not as bad as it sounds. If you know exactly where the leak is it is relatively easy to cut the concrete and repair the leak and then re-surface that area. Covering a leak with ceramic tile will only trap the moisture underneath it and eventually mold will develop in the grout joints.

- Q: I want 12x12 tiles on the floor of the bathroom. But on the countertop (small, less than 6sqt) should I do large tiles, or smaller tiles of a similar style? And for the backsplash, should it be the same as the counter or the floor? Not so good with the design aspect. :)
- All your tile selections should co-ordinate but do not need to match exactly. I like the big tiles on the floor but not on the counters and back splash. The large tile will make those areas seem out of scale. I'd go with a similar tile but in a smaller size on the counter and back splash and see if you can find some accent tile to work into your design of the back splash. All it takes is a band of something like natural stone, glass tile or a textured tile to kick it up a notch and by using the more expensive tile sparingly, you're not increasing your costs but certainly increasing the eye appeal.

- Try to select such colors which matches the old one so that looks same. If still not working then take help from experienced professionals.

- Hay Joe , to install tile on a concrete floor , first you need to know that you don,t have any moisture problems with the concrete , then you need to make sure the slab is level and free or voids ,if there is you need to use a flash patch on it, once all this is done, then you deed to decide what size tile you want to use ,this will determine what size notch trowel to use. you want to use thin set to install your tile then sanded grout to grout your tile then seal. pickup a bag of thin set and read the back it will tell you what size trowel for the size tile and how much thin set you will need to do the job .the same goes for the grout. ask a floor salesmen for help. good luck!!

- Remove the linoleum. The adherence of your tile is only as good as the material it is bonded to. Linoleum (or more correctly, vinyl) is a poor base to lay tiles over. Remove the vinyl, scrape the concrete of any vinyl adhesive, and mop the floor with TSP. (Tri-sodium phosphate, found at most hardware stores) This will remove most substances from the concrete and create a better surface for your tile. Let the floor dry overnight before setting the tiles.
- Q: can I surface over my white tile flooring granet??
- If they are vinyl tiles stuck to the subfloor and you put another substrate, such as 1/2 cement board, yes you can. If the vinyl tiles are over another type subfloor, such as luan, then no, the vinyl and its substrate must come up and then the proper subflooring put down over the subfloor, correctly and then tile. If its a self stick tile, over slab, it must come up. If its a glued down vinyl tile over slab and bonded well, there are proper ways to put ceramic over this. If your doing ceramic over ceramic, and the ceramic is down well and no signs of cracks or loose tiles, again there are proper ways of putting ceramic ( or granite) over ceramic. - you need to remove the old grout on the surface and re apply new grout to fix the problem, you can even get grout that is tinted to the colour that you like .
