- Q: What is transparent tiles
- (The market also known as tiles, polished tiles, etc.) is the rock debris by pressing high pressure, the surface after grinding hardness compared with the stone, water absorption is lower, good wear resistance. The surface of the whole body is not glazed, and the front and the back of the material and color consistent, hence the name. Although there are seepage of the whole body bricks and other varieties, but relatively speaking, its color than glazed tiles. Most of the anti-skid brick are all bricks.
- Q: Tiles of choice, how to see the quality of tiles is good or bad
- The simplest is the knock, listen to crisp loud and better, with the porcelain similar; can also try the water, take a one-time cups pouring water on the tiles, the more slowly the better description of the better texture
- Q: My parents want to re-tile their bathroom. My dad says he can use regular tiles in the bathroom, bathroom being the floor and the open-shower walls(the only thing stopping the water spillage is plastic and fabric on a rail), but my mom says it needs bathroom tiles and bathroom grout for the job. Any help would definitely be appreciated!!!
- There's no such thing as bathroom tiles or bathroom grout. You can use any kind of ceramic, glass, or porcelain tile in a bathroom. If you use something porous, like a natural stone, there are extra steps involved to make it waterproof. Also, if you are tiling the floor, don't use glass tiles (they will become scratched) or tiles that will become slippery when wet. The most important thing when tiling a bathroom is to prepare it well and don't skip any steps. All surfaces that are to be tiled must be covered with cement backer board. Tape and glue the seams and allow it to dry. Then, you can lay your tile and grout it. Make sure that you seal the grout! This is the step that many people forget and if you do forget it, your grout will be flaking off in a matter of months. Depending on which sealer you use, you may have to wait 1-3 days to use the bathroom after it is sealed. This allows the sealer to develop a water-tight surface. Also, don't grout corners. Corners should be caulked with bathroom caulk. The caulk allows the tiles to expand and contract with changes in temperature. If you just grout the whole thing, there's no room for the tiles to expand and contract and your grout can fracture. Good luck!
- Q: I would like to redo my entire house in ceramic tile floors but money is tight. I‘m planning to do the entire thing with leftovers I can get from other people who have finished their own tile projects. Is it possible ot use wall tiles on the floor for small areas? Are wall tiles able to withstand the pressure of walking? Any advice?
- The small thin wall tiles (4 inch square one) are no good at all for floors they will break. The larger wall tiles are generally much thicker and will do the job upto a point. As has been said by others you have to lay them properly or they crack. The real danger in using wall tiles is the smooth glazed surface, which can be as slippery as ice. One drop of water on the floor and whoops over you go! I suggest you get proper but cheap floor tiles - buy end of lines or odd ones that will make a good pattern
- Q: I have a 15x15 tile that is on the floor in front of a gas fireplace (never been used) that has a hairline crack in it. The tile is one of 4 on the floor and matches 8 others that ring the face of the gas fireplace, the bathrooms and the kitchen. I cannot find the same tile to replace it. There is no elevation difference across the crack. Is there a method to fill the hairline crack so it doesn‘t stand out like a sore thumb?
- just leave it be if you try to do something with and make it worse thin what you may have to change it all unless you can take a picture and go to a tile store sometimes if you find some one that has sold tile for years they know what kind it is and can tell you where you may be able to find some don't do the Lowe's or Home depot they usually don't have a clue
- Q: I need step by step instructions on how to install ceramic tile in a bathroom on a concrete slab.
- I okorder . I'm going to try replacing the tiles in my shower. There is some water damage so I'm going to have to replace the boards, backing, and maybe even wall supports first though. I'm hoping to be able to finish it in a couple of weeks, luckily I have a second bathroom! Tiling is hard, you might have to rent a wet saw too. But it can pay off by increasing the value of your house at a tiny fraction of the $1,000's that contractors would charge. I would only do this project if you are patient and have some experience with DIY projects. If you have lots of time, then go for it!
- Q: Do you think that it will be dangerous to my children if I put tile throughout my whole home... Falls etc. Thanks for the advice for those who have experience with this! :)
- I have tile in my kitchen that proceeds into a section of the family room. First I would get a textured instead of smooth tile because if their feet are wet or something gets spilled, it is a nasty hard fall. Tile is very easy to clean in my opinion and it does look very nice and adds to the equity in your home. I am not sure I would put tile in my entire house because I do have children (10 and almost 5) and I have had 2 situations where the floor was wet and my son went down hard. So my suggestion is to not put tile in the whole house, but choose certain rooms. There are pros to it, but having children myself it can be a nasty fall when it is wet and someone slips on it. If put in the kitchen or bathroom I would go for a textured tile instead of smooth to help prevent those falls.
- Q: The difference between tiles and tiles.
- Tiles, tiles, the name is the same, in fact, there is no difference between the points. Are made of refractory metal oxides and semi-metallic oxides, through the process of grinding, mixing, pressing, glazing, sintering, and the formation of an acid-resistant porcelain or stone, etc., building or decoration materials, called For tiles. The raw materials are mostly made of clay, quartz sand and so on.
- Q: My mothers house has 9 tiles on her bathroom floor and I understand they are made with asbestos. Some of the tiles are starting to lift and I am concerned about how to remove and dispose of them, any suggestions?
- Asbestos is only dangerous when it is an airborne particulate. If you do not sand it or grind it up, you're pretty safe. If the bathroom floor is structurally sound, I'd cover the existing floor, tile all, with 1/4 plywood, then lay a piece of vinyl flooring over it. To remove the tiles, you can use a heat gun (looks like a hair dryer) a 3 putty knife. Heat the tile slide the putty knife under it...should take 20 minutes to an hour to get them up. You will not be releasing any asbestos fibers, as they will still be embedded in the tile. As to disposal, check with your local landfill about where you can dispose of the removed tile. Good luck...
- Q: i built a new shower, and plan on tiling up to the ceiling. if i tile the ceiling itself, someone told me this would be a chore to clean. any experience in this? the ceiling is cement board right now, what are my other options? BTW, the tile is 4x4 travertine.
- I would indeed tile the ceiling. Just be sure the bathroom is well vented with all the hot steam in the room. Just search for good easy cleaners. simple windex on the ceiling? not much soap up there?
