Q:I had asked the guy I am seeing to go somewhere with me tonight and he said he had to prep the floor before laying the tile? He has been working on a flooring job, but what do you do to prep a floor? Is this the same whether with tiles or hardwood?
yes you have to prepare the floor that means if you are putting tile or wood you have to plain out the floor that the floor is straight so there is is no ups and down. what we call level the floor
Q:Jiyuan where the tiles are good
1, look at the back of the swivel to see if the color is pure, generally pure color display for the milky white (partial white), can not be black, can not be yellow, the surface is not black, black hair to prove that the brick itself has impurities, Impurities more than the density of brick is more down, usually in the course of practical problems prone to fracture, damage. But the back of the brick body can not be very white that is not normal, indicating that zirconium silicate raw materials used too much, the national test tiles have no radioactive one of which is the detection of zirconium silicate raw materials practical amount of zirconium silicate raw materials can make brick Whitening, but zirconium silicate is also one of the main killers of radioactive, be sure to pay attention. General manufacturers have a national test report certificate, you ask them to produce it, note: must be booked with the kind of color certificate book or product brochure behind the parameters that is not a copy of the inspection report, that thing is Can be forged.
Q:your supposed to?Would it damage the tiles?
Ceramic tile has a glaze on it which keeps the vinegar from harming the tile, however--you might have to reseal your grout if you use to much vinegar over a period of time. Vinegar can work on the grout like an acid if it isn't diluted properly. One teaspoon of vinegar to one quart of water is best.
Q:How to fix the surface of the tile? How much is the thickness of the tile?
Finish face to touch the tile angle, four corners must be flat, vertical joints to be vertical, the whole wall should be flat, you said the thickness of what is the slurry? Tiles of cement mortar thickness is generally 1.5 to centimeters, see the tile workers themselves set
Q:what causes lippage on a granite floor? i had someone install granite tiles in my bedroom and the lippage isn‘t too bad i must say but 2 or 3 tiles do have A LOT of lippage...was wondering why that would be? thanks so much in advance!
Hey BigBadShawn, I worked for years in flooring at The Home Depot and I got to see this question come up quite a bit from my customers. Natural stone tiles like granite can be tricky to keep, and lippage can come from various sources. Depending on what is underneath it as well as how the tiles are installed will determine what is the exact cause of the lippage. Usually I've seen with older houses with wood subfloors that prep work wasn't addressed so that over time as the floor joists/subfloor expands, contracts, and settles tiles of any substrate can pop up or create small lippages. The professional way to installed your floor was (hopefully) by the builder using a tile backerboard and/or securing the subfloor securely before laying down the tiles. Also, if the tiles have very thin to no grout lines, it is possible that the events of the floor joists settling makes little room for the tiles to go anywhere but up. With a high-quality flexible mortar, that shouldn't of been an issue. If you noticed a progression over time with your tiles, I'd say you most likely have a wood subfloor on your hands. If it was concrete, it could be a matter of improper installation, moisture, or unevenness of the surface itself that gave it the lippage you see now. Hope this helps you out, aboveaveragejoe
Q:I want to rip up the old linoleum in my bathroom and install some tile. The previous owners laid the current layer of linoleum on top of the original linoleum. From the little bit I‘ve peeled up to look underneath it looks like chip board underneath that. Does that mean I need to lay some kind of backerboard underneath the tile? I also plan on tearing out the curent cabinets and installing new ones. Should I install the tile or the cabinets first?
Tile should go down first. However, if you want the tile to lay flush against the cupboards as opposed to being underneath the cupboards, then you should install the cupboards first. Just make sure you seal that edge between the cupboards and the tile. You need to lay backerboard down first because that will keep the floor from accidentally suffering water damage, which so often happens in a bathroom.
Q:We are planning small home improvements during the next year to prepare our house for sale. I would like to switch out our 4 year old formica countertop and replace it with granite tile. A slab is out of the question due to cost. We have a small kitchen and would need about 40 tiles. When I looked on the internet for costs, it seems I can get these tiles for under $300.00? Does that sound right, I think that‘s less than what we paid for the Formica. Also, my next question is can you use the same tile for the entryway, which is next to the kitchen, or it that a little too much of the same thing?

Q:Ok so my 17 year old SIL decided to clean the grout in our entry way using STRAIGHT bleach last night. I came home to find the ceramic tile COVERED in bleach!! Now, after mopping several times I still haven‘t been able to get all the bleach up AND our tiles are stripped!!! Any tips on getting the bleach up and then resealing? Total novice here and desperate for any kind of help!! Thanks!!
Well congradulations on your very clean floor, never fear the clorine bleach will buff off when it is completely dried considering your existing tile is not porus. if that doesn't take care of it, then try this, use a brush and wash it down very good with water and then use a solution of vinegar and water (half and half) this is called an acid wash in the tile work trade. If that does not solve your problem, then get your SIL back over to remove the existing grout and install new or just ask her to pay for it to be done by a professional (which ever suits ya). Be advised to clean your new grout thoughly twice after it has hazed over, then after 72 hours apply an acid wash mentioed above, let it dry, and install a grout sealer.
Q:I was wondering if self stick vinyl tile would work well on bathroom walls and if it would stick well to sheet rock or if i have to replace the sheetrock with plywood?
get ceramic tiles installed Home Depot will guide you on how to do it yourself but don't use floor tiles for a wall it will look tacky for one and if you ever decide to remove them you will have to replace the dry wall because the adhesive will pull out the back of it that is covered by glue .
Q:Which of the major markets in Hangzhou to sell tiles?
Hangzhou I know two places, hoping to help the landlord. One in Wenzhou village that area has a tile market, quite big.
